    FUCK THIS NEWSPOST GRAAARGHGHGHGHGHGH

It's funny because I've found thinking about my breathing to have the opposite effect. In a stressful situation, consciously moderating my breathing rate can be very effective at keeping myself calm, like during a dive when something's going wrong.

Not really. It's actually quite common. Hell, most runners I know do it while they're running (as do I).

Has anyone been to the main El Shaddai website yet? Here's the image on the US portal:

El Shaddai received promotion with the trailer released at the 2010 E3 press conference as well as the Tokyo Game Show. It was met with strong feedback, which has been attributed to a line of dialogue spoken by Lucifel to Enoch: "You sure that's enough armor?". This quote earned first place of the Net Buzzword Awards 2010 Grand Prix in Japan. Despite the trend being the creator's intention, it exceeded their expectations.[6] Other than the game's promotional movies, pre-release merchandise such as Edwin jeans and action figures were available for sale.[2]

The fuck kind of character design is that?

It doesn't look like they even completed that image. Like they scrapped it to try another one halfway through but someone came along and decided it would be great for the games website!

Hippos are also one of the few wild animals that are completely untrainable. You absolutely cannot train a hippo to do anything. If they use hippos in a movie, they basically have to stock shots, or mechanical.

that's not true at all! i train hippos every goddamn day whether i like it or not! i have no idea about how they use hippos in movies, that part may be true.

also i played this trailer. i did say what the fuck a few times.

    Also this comic is exquisite

... They ate, slept and worked. Some of them found uninteresting partners at work who they married and came home to. Sometimes they would half-heartededly thrust into each other and children were made. They lived a middle class existence until their deaths to heart disease and cancer.

It's also very handy to consciously breathe faster when doing sports, as it can help you avoid getting out of breath so soon.

I find this very useful when playing tennis.

    I experience the opposite effect.

I didn't know thinking about autonomous functions was something that could get people so worked-up either. I spend a lot of time thinking about stuff like that. Breathing exercises can be quite beneficial and being aware of your body is quite good for meditative practices, especially to confront things like anxiety and stress.

I seem to suffer constant low-grade asthma or some shit, since I feel like I can never get a full breath and I often wake up in the middle of the night struggling to breathe.

As a result, I'm pretty much always aware of my breathing, so I've never been affected by stuff like that. Also I chew on my tongue as a habit, so I'm pretty consistently aware of that too.

Sounds like you may have nasal airway restrictions or even sleep apnea.

I never used to be able to get a full breath in through my nose. As in, I could breathe through my nose for a little while, but then I would have to take a big deep breath in through my mouth every now and then.

I got surgery a couple years ago for turbinate reduction and to fix my deviated septum (and had my tonsils out while I was at it). Go to an ENT and tell him about your breathing issues.

Well I've been to doctors about my breathing throughout my life, and they've always just put me on various inhalers (I should be on one now, but I ran out and didn't have insurance for a while, and now I'm just lazy). It's not just during sleep that I have trouble breathing, although laying in certain positions does make it worse (if I lay on my left side it gets like 10x worse for instance).

I just got back on insurance thanks to my job though, so I'm definitely gonna make time to see if there might be a good long-term solution. It kind of came to a head when I was doing a sports day thing at the school I taught at like a year ago, and the teachers had to run a relay. I only had to run a half-lap, which is like 50 or 100 meters or something? And I was literally gasping for breath for the next half an hour. Not cool!

The GF has light anxiety problems, like me.

Trying to get her to do a relaxing breathing exercise, even when she is already having some anxious breathing problems, will cause her to FLIP THE HELL OUT.

Its annoying/sad because if she could do those exercises, she might be able to control her situation better.
