Fuck yeah, watching the livestream of the vote here, they just voted it in 36-26

http://www.nysenate.gov/live

The assembly already voted for it, the senate added some religious exemptions, and the governor is going to sign it into law

Fuck yeah!

Edit: Jumping the gun a bit. They voted for an amendment, the real vote is coming up after this bigot shuts up

Basically saying that you can't sue a church who doesn't want to marry some gays, which I guess is reasonable

Religious institutions and their related affiliates (such as a Knights of Columbus hall or whatever) would be allowed to deny use of their facilities to gay marriagers, if I'm not mistaken.

One thing I'm amazed by is how little press it is getting. There is some but barely any, nothing like in California.

i am just hella sad that i am reminded that in my state (virginia) the likeliness of anything resembling gay marriage being passed before scotus action is about 0 :/

but i am so glad for new yorkers!

That's basically the bottom line for it.

Civil unions do not work, there's no legal justification for denying this right to these people.

I think he did very well.

dang, this looks like it's pretty much sailing through

I wonder if they'll introduce a new gay marriage proposal over here

I just checked and Oregon currently has domestic partnership benefits for same-sex couples, but not marriage

It's an easy concession. Our laws shouldn't be dictated by religion and our religious services shouldn't be dictated by the government.

If the world were sane, that'd alleviate any potential issues the public would have with allowing committed couples to wed.

gotta respect a man like that, i emailed him to let him know he is more than bold, wish i had the money to donate even

sadly he probably won't get reelected because of it, his district is close

Our fore-fathers would be ashamed right now to see that it is already passed in five state. This isn't right. Our country was founded on The Bible, the word of God. We're sinking to a whole new level. And Obama just had to go to a gay fundraiser making it seem okay. No, it is not okay.
