Pre (and post) PAX Boardgame get together - See you PAX Prime 2012!

Gene ParmesanGene Parmesan Registered User regular
Last year we saw a huge turnout at the Sheraton for the pre and improptu post PAX boardgame sessions. This year I'm planning on doing a couple things that I hope will really make things smoother for us and for the people who work there. If you have a suggestion for a place better than the Sheraton please recommend, but the facilities are large enough and it's perfectly located for this. Also in the plans are some Looking for group and looking for players tags so an empty game can fill up quickly.

I'll update this OP with the people coming and the games they're bringing. If you would like to schedule a game of something, post in this thread the name of it, how many players it seats, when you're starting and how long it lasts. for example: Battlestar Galactica + Exodus Expansion, Seats 7. Starting at 8:00, run time 3 hours.

If you are interested in boardgames but haven't played anything past monopoly please feel free to come! There are a ton of easy to learn games to dip your feet in and lots of people eager to get you playing them. If you'd like to come by after the pub crawl great, just don't vomit on our chits!

If you want to bring a game then I'll list it so people can get a general idea of what's going to be there. If you'd like to schedule a game just put up what you got, and times you want to play it.

Depending on when this is, I'll be glad to attend. I mostly have more mainstream games (monopoly, risk, trivial pursuit, settlers of catan... ooh! or mousetrap!) but I'd be happy to bring one of 'em along.

Also, the link to your photos says they're not publicly viewable.

Thanks, fixed! As soon as a PAX schedule comes out I'll look at times. I believe we started at 6 last year, and it seemed like a pretty good time to do so. Probably plan it on the heels of the Pre-PAX dinner (if one is happening this year)

  • palmerpalmer Registered User
Depending on the datettime, I'm down for this. I'll be bringing a small crapload of games with me.
I demo for Steve Jackson, so that would cover most of what I would have. Munchkin, Revolution, Zombie Dice mainly.
I'll play almost anything, and can teach anything.

  • oxfroggyoxfroggy Registered User
you know munky and I will be there. We'll probably bring castle ravenloft, dominion, zombigeddon, zombies (MAYBE) and UNO. because why not.

I am a tentative yes for this. I picked up "Aye Dark Overlord" last night and played our maiden run last night. Pretty funny stuff if you have a group of people who are quick on their feet. If I can make it, I'll be bringing that.

Chalk me and my eurogame collection as another "depending on date/time, I'm totally into this"

Got you guys down. Does anyone know about the state of the pre-PAX dinner, or has an opinion on a good time for this? I think 6 is enough time for people to get off their flights, maybe wash up and eat and get down to some board gaming.

  • pinebarkpinebark Registered User
I'm interested. I've got copies of a lot of big FFG games (Android, Arkham, Talisman, Twilight Imperium) but don't know if I'll be lugging them down to the convention center. Maybe if I can get a case to cram Arkham and all its expansions into...

In any case, I'll probably toss Jungle Speed, We Didn't Playtest This at All, and Bang! into my bag as filler games, but I'm up for pretty much anything.

My wife and I are planning for pre-pax dinner and TWDT, but would be interested in getting together with people for games anytime during pax. I will probably will be bringing Cosmic Encounter (New FFG version with expansions), Dominion (with some of the expansions), and Dune the board game (from the 70s).

We will be staying at the Sheraton.

  • CronusCronus Registered User regular
What is the time frame for the post PAX gaming? That one I might be able to do. The pre-PAX one I can't attend because of the dinner. Also moving it one hour isn't going to let people going to the dinner attend. People will still have to travel to the dinner and besides that you want a good amount of time set aside for board games.

I'll try to squeeze by to say hi before the dinner/TWDT, which should be easy as I will be staying at the Sheraton, but I should definatly be able to make the post PAX gaming.

I'd love to come! This sounds like a lot of fun, and right up my alley. Depends on schedule, though.

Arikado and I will definitely show up as soon as the WCTT pulls into the station. We are staying at the Sheraton so we won't have any problems making our way over. We can bring Aye Dark Overlord, Ascension, MTG, and Dominion among a few other games.

EDIT: 6PM the day before. Hmm... the train doesn't arrive until 8-10pm. >_> Hopefully people are going to play well into the night. :)

One of the reasons I reserved a room in the Sheraton this years was so I could game with y'all. I passed through last year and it looked like so much fun.

I have Settlers of Catan (which I bought at PAX LAST year and haven't found anyone to play with in my tiny rural town) and would love to play it it at least once.

I also have some variant of Fluxx around here somewhere.

Doofenshmirtz: Wow, if I had a nickel for every time I was doomed by a puppet, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?

In the process of updating the OP with everything who's coming or might come.

So the Pre-PAX dinner is from 6 to 8 and is 21+. I was thinking around 7 for the boardgames. Gives us around 5-8 hours for boardgaming depending on how late you want to stay up. Early enough for people to come by after the dinner and Triwizard Drinking Tournament. What do you people think?

Last year I went to bed the first night around 1 in the morning. People played past me. We'll be there when you get to seattle :)

That's happened to me before as well. I'm hoping scheduling games on this thread will help that. Something like "Playing Chaos in the Old World starting at 7:30, expected run time 2 and a half hours. Seats 5 players"

  • LexiconGrrlLexiconGrrl Registered User regular
I'll be there at 7! I'm local and we have an obscenely large game collection so I'll be bringing a handful of games of different skill and length levels, including a couple of easier family-style games for any folks who may be new to boardgameluv and are intimidated by some of the more complicated games: Blue Moon City, Catan, Lord of the Fries, We Didn't Playtest This At All, etc...

Anyone have an opinion about whether I should schedule 2 slots for 2 mid-length games or 1 slot for a biggie? Ex: 7:00-Wrath of Ashardalon 8:30-Khronos OR 7:00-Battlestar Galactica. What say you all?

(PS - Totally want to show off our new painted Ravenloft & Ashardalon!)

I saw you guys last year as I was staying in the Sheraton and it looked like you guys were having a blast. Hopefully I can drag a few friends away to at least get in a board game or two on Thursday night. I love me some Cosmic Encounter, so I'm in for that. I've also heard the BSG is really good too.

I know I won't be there for the PrePAX because I'll be at the Triwizard. However, my husband Wayne (not on the PA boards but @ChaoticMuse on Twitter) will definitely be there after the PrePAX dinner.

We've got loads of games. I think he may end up bringing some oddball ones since it seems most people have Dominion, munchkin etc pretty well covered. I'll get with him and find out what he's planning and drop it back here. I know that THIS is what he loves the most about PAX.

Dune the board game (from the 70s).

Awesome, I've always wanted to play! I'm coming in on the train, and my post-pax schedule is starting to look a little squishy, but we should arrange something. I mostly hang around TT at the con itself anyway.

Wayne (my husband) had a really good idea. He suggested posting THIS LINK. It's from our gaming house party and lists the games we have. He's going to bring some of the odder card games, they're fast and fun, but he said that people could have a look and see if they thought anything looked interesting. (PM me and I'll start a list!)

Some things to keep in mind: The D&D games take up a lot of room and time but are super-fun. Same with Descent.

I'm in; not sure if I can actually get a pass to Pax itself yet but I'm local so no issue there.

I have most of the standards, plus Power Grid, Brass and plenty of others, including Battleship! (the new, $65 one that's more of a wargame)

I'd prefer to run a game/show off Yomi, and am willing to run a game of Cutthroat Caverns (like Munchkin but fun).

I'd like playing the original AH Civilization, but I haven't gotten a game in in under 100 hours yet.

Aaaand the forums are linking me to this page again! I'll get everyone down and set together. Just picked up the expansion for Chaos in the Old World today, so this is a good time to advertise the 2 open spots in my 9 o clock game (with horned rat expansion).

In related news, I could be persuaded to bring down my copy of Betrayal at House on the Hill on Sunday. The Pre-PAX one might be a bit hard for me to make, considering I'd be going down there either on bus or by bugging parental units for a ride, but I'll see if I can't get down there that day as well.

I also have a fully-expanded copy of Thunderstone I could lug down as well.

Would anyone be interested in a game of Conquest of Nerath? It's the latest Dungeons and Dragons board game from Wizards of the Coast that is nothing at all like Risk. Really, it isn't. I'm a big fan of it and am bringing it over all the way from the UK to play it at PAX itself. I should be able to make the pre-pax event as I get into Seattle in the afternoon. Here's the stats:

Our group will be staying at Homewood, but it's only two blocks away from the Sheraton. Every year after PAX we have been staying up and playing one or more new games that we first met at PAX. I think it is safe fro me to commit our group to joining in on this. I don't know what game we will have this year since we haven't been introduced to it yet, but we will be looking for a new fun boardgame to add to our collection this year.
