ninite is the most amazing website you'll never remember to use after a fresh install
Yesss
I actually remembered the existence of ninite after my last windows install and it is so so incredible.
Also fixing this fan turned into taking the whole computer apart because dang it is like this thing hasn't been dusted out in ever. So now I am reassembling the whole thing.
im at that stage where my pc barely runs new games I hate it (witcher 2 with everything on lowest settings is real chuggy, to the point where I can't do the arm wrestling minigames)
L|ama get down from the ivory tower and go get a shitty job to make money and get a new computer
fuck that ill just steal parts from the computer labs
and it's also shared between normal RAM and video card, so the total of those can't exceed that and I think 32bit windows normally limits it to just 2gb of normal RAM to be safe, but there might be some workaround

transmission is more efficient at higher voltages, but you need bigger transformators to downscale it again
basically, europe has power like this and the us has power like that

So it seems there may have been two separate issues with my computer. I have switched back to using onboard video, and the random lockups seem to have stopped, but there are certain actions that still always cause a lockup, such as opening UDK and closing Portal 2.
Hard to say, fucked up drivers can cause a load of shitty problems, so you can try
You'd have to make sure you don't use those drivers again though
what graphics driver are you using?

Could a Windows reinstall fix this or is it most likely a hardware issue?
did you get a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message when you booted back up? If so, if you click on the "show what this report contains" or whatever links within the report to microsoft window, it should point to crash logs (.dmp files). I usually use the windows debugging tools, but this seems well recommended and looks to be easier to use.

I am using the latest Intel HD (i5) drivers, but I was getting similar crashes with a whole bunch of different nVidia drivers, so I took the card out and am trying onboard graphics. I don't think that is the issue.
Not getting that serious error message, but I will try that program. Cheers.

in case debug logging isn't turned on:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).
To change the folder location for the small memory dump files, type a new path in the Dump File box (or in the Small dump directory box, depending on your version of Windows).
Find cards on Amazon with 50+ reviews and check the 1, 2, and 3-star reviews. Ratings of 1-3 usually mention the flaws and workarounds, or problems in the case of other things (like books).

i'm really bad about dusting my computer
and the way that I always end up cleaning it is really backwards and a bad idea all around
fucking compressed air is so damn expensive though and never does a complete job before you run out
but did he take a load off anny???
look at this bad boy
You didn't just dump a bucket of water on your computer, did you?
but its dumb
yeah, if i got the "updated" 5 out of 6 version, i would just be angry
This way I can be a star wars nerd and refer to my cleaning droid.
Satans..... hints.....

stop all the downloadin
This is why I'm happy my dad has like six air compressors.
It is the best thing.
I just assume higher voltage is better because we have like 220 here in the EU. Don't even ask me about the cycle rate thing, that's just confusing.

I just disabled my network card on a whim, and the two things that always made the computer crash (opening UDK and closing Portal 2) worked fine.
This is good news because that is probably the cheapest thing in the computer to replace.
