Peter Bourjous got injured last night during the game, so in a surprise move, the Angels are calling up one of their top prospects, hell one of the top prospects in all of baseball, in Mike Trout, and he is most likely starting tonight in center field.

Kiiiiinda looking forward to tonight, as long as he doesn't pull a Brandon Wood on us.

He is, and he won't. Wood put up huge power numbers in hitter friendly parks but had also had huge strikeout rates. Trout, from what I've seen, doesn't have any holes anywhere. Not that he's definitely going to be a superstar or anything, but I can almost guarantee he won't be a bust.

Yeah, I saw Trout while he was at spring training this year, and I got giddy with excitement. The only problem right now is where to put him, as the outfield is pretty set for the next couple of years, so we really won't see Trout on a regular basis until 2013 or so.

The thing with luge is you know it's extremely dangerous. You wouldn't catch me getting on one of those sleds. People have died at baseball games before but never like this.

Well, a man fell down the stairs at Coors Field this year and died, and someone fell from the stands at Texas last year (they survived though). It's still incredibly tragic and hard to think about.

also Tom Kelly has been interesting to listen to on the telecasts, a lot of good stuff from him

I just assumed with the team banged up, but yet requesting the DH, and the All Star break right there, the Rays would rather do it this weekend rather than lose an off day in crunch time, but whatever.

He'll probably get the surgery and be out for the month.

And Jasc, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are a bit more Yankee fans in the country than there are Rays fans. Just a little bit.

I actually called that Jeter would:

Get to 3,000 in his first 2 at bats
    Boggs his way to 3,000

    I should play lotto

Its funny because he's been playing well since coming back from the DL.

Even funnier when you look at his numbers in the first inning this season (he's batting .370+) and people say he shouldn't bat lead off anymore.

i imagine it's more about not wanting to maximize the plate appearances of a guy with a .320 obp and not wanting him to hit in front of your best hitters

So they have the guy who ended up with 3,000 in the booth on YES, and he seems like a swell guy. He didn't really want anything for it but the Yanks gave him a bunch of stuff anyway (or so they say). "He deserves this, he's worked so hard for this."

He got 4 champions suite tickets from now through the world series (that's it? Shit I'd have asked for tickets for life).

And he gets to meet Jeter after the game.

And he got a free DJ3K hat.

And a tour of the stadium.

Seriously, of all baseball memorabilia... a milestone baseball of one of the most beloved players of one of the most popular teams.

He's giving it away for a 30 dollar baseball cap, and a few grand worth of baseball tickets.

    Smart move, bro.

and it's not like a record-breaking ball where there's a chance somebody else will come along and make the previous record somewhat meaningless

and there's (presumably) nothing like steroids that could taint the value down the line

throw in the fact that it's derek jeter and you've got potentially one of the most valuable balls ever
