You know what's really awesome? Goldman is buying up commodity warehouse facilities to "smooth out it's supply issues" or manipulate the supply on the market.

I am actually unconvinced that speculation leads to higher prices generally, because theoretically speaking it ought to be impossible
ex: oil producers are not idiots, and if speculators are driving up the price, the traders within the oil companies ought to be able to take advantage of that increased price and simply sell higher directly to distributors, destroying the advantages of arbitrage and crushing the positions of the "speculators"
if anyone has any research that counter indicates this hypothesis I am honestly super interested in seeing it

also one of my best buds (who is not gay at all and I am not bitter about that at all I promise) has a classic tattoo of the heart with a banner in front of it
only instead of "MOM" it reads "MOMS"

seriously his moms are totally excellent and his biodad is the biggest piece of shit in the world and when the Catholic church complains that they have to shut down their adoption services because they can't discriminate against people on the basis of gender well

Don't know if this counts as "research", but it's the best thing I could come up with quickly. I suppose technically I should have said that "Abusive commodity speculators who control an inordinate amount of the futures market are driving up the cost of gas"

in other news, and I believe I can disclose this because it is a matter of public record:
speculative trading is verbotten by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority
apparently when you have Sharia law as your only judicial system, they consider speculative trades as equal in stature to gambling and is therefore unlawful and unenforceable
hence why Saudi oil traders can't take advantage of speculative arbitrage

They really need to include crude inventory numbers in that regression. It's a huge market indicator and trading signal that everyone uses, producers, refiners and traders. Not including it is very disingenuous.
