i think its a bit unfair to expect the season's main casters to step aside for GUEST casters (thats what Tastosis were, don't forget it) for the FINALS of the tournament that they have casted the whole way.

the sponsors for the ESL and whatever other league that skipped out on paying the prize money

isn't there a contract for the sponsors that they have to pay those winnings? Seems a bit off that they can just decide "haha nope" and not pay.

PUMA WON! oh that makes up for my flight being delayed for 4 hours

    1) terran wins
    2) mc loses (I went over yesterday that I don't REALLY hate him, I just get rage going when I watch him because he is hax... having the chance to watch a terran beat him is worth quite a lot to me right now)
    3) artosis was right

I vow to watch at least those series when I get home in... 6 or 7 fucking hours

I need a subscription to watch the finals VODs right? I went to to the amusement park for one day and I completely missed like 20 pages of the old thread. The finals got everyone very talkative eh? Also, Fruitdealer and Trickster to Startale? Fuck yeah.

I just played a terran on slag pits.

*As his scv scouts a second empty base*

"Wait, wait, we can spawn close positions on this map?!"

    "Yeah"

    "how sad"

Pulls his scv line and a-moves over the spines, queens, and lings that I had been massing.

I seriously don't get how Blizzard thought that map was a good idea. The rush distance on close positions is like, what, half the distance of Steppes?

Ok, well, maybe not that short, but that map fucking sucks.

It is literally impossible to stop the bottom of your ramp from being bunkered as a Protoss if the terran decides he wants to make two barracks and try for it. The distance is just too short.

I downvote Slag, Delta and Scrap as Terran and Protoss.

    11237-1.png
  • stimtokolosstimtokolos Registered User regular
I think I have Typhon downvoted instead of Scrap in that set.

I'd downvote Scrap but I just metagame the ladder vetos, everyone else vetos it so I may as well get a free veto. I sometimes get ZvZ on it and people try to do builds that hold your ramp with roaches on normal maps. They die horribly.

Am I the only one who wishes for much more rigid rules and consistency among 1v1 maps? I would very much prefer it if the rush distance were about the same on all maps, and if every map supported a variety of playstyles (early aggression, macro, everything in between) instead of having your "rush map" and your "macro map" and so forth. Also, I don't like the element of luck introduced by four player maps in general, but especially the ones with short rush distances.

If we had five versions of Xel'Naga caverns with varying map architecture/base placement/tower placement I would actually be happier with that.

it may be dumb, but its what Blizzard wants

Personally I think the 4player maps that have close spawn disabled are all excellent maps.

    11237-1.png
  • stimtokolosstimtokolos Registered User regular
Everything being the same wouldn't be a great idea. I think TDA is the upper limit on distances I'm comfortable with. The close positions on most maps are a bit too close for my liking. I think backwater gulch has the distance I'd be happy with as close positions distance. (A bit shorter than close air tends to be by ground)

Although I don't mind the disabled close spawn maps, it makes them all into 3player maps as far as scouting is concerned, which is fun sometimes, but I don't like it when zerg can eliminate one position so swiftly with the overlord at close air.
I also dislike how easy it makes proxy aggression even though I rarely run into it.

On shakuras for instace, you can proxy as if it were a 2 player map, but your opponent potentially has to scout two locations to know you're not proxying.

I think they just need to rework how they set up the ramp / main position, close air is also so fucking close as air it feels silly. (even if this helps with mutas it isn't right)

Man this game, I need to play it more. Thankfully I'll be done with this semester as of Weds, so should have more time to get crushed in SC2. Yay! :D

Speaking of being crushed, I'd love to play in the CSLL on Fri but I work 6-9pm EST - doh! =( At least I can still watch a few matches after I get home.

I'm not really saying make every map the same in all respects, I would simply prefer it if you always know where your opponent spawns in a 1v1, and the rush distances are always about the same so you can have accurate timings across all maps. Beyond that you could still have a ton of variety in the way the maps are laid out, the way bases are set up, etc, to keep things interesting.

That said I don't really care about map variety at all, personally (I understand many people do). I come from a lot of DotA and LoL where you basically just play on the same map every game. That in itself was never an issue for me. You learn the map like the back of your hand and the developers can fine-tune it to perfection, as well.

Every terran I have met on that map in the past week has tried some dumb shit vs me.

One of them I saw send an SCV down his ramp and continue in that direction. I harass his rax worker, go down, no cc, he keeps chasing me far with another SCV. Something is obviously up, behind his LOS blocker, two makaesque barracks.

Drop two spines, make a queen at the front some lings. Inevitable SCV allin. Leaves game.

Next guy tried to proxy one behind my gold minerals, even though I saw him lay it down with my OL then fucked with him with a drone, got 3 SCVs to red hp with that drone and he kept trying instead of just cancelling immediately and only being a little behind. SCV marine push held easily. He then went blueflame helllions and marines and I had to pull out of my nat but was far ahead and lost no drones, push him back with lings and mutas. Take whole map.

    Fucking everyone.

Yeah, Xel'Naga Caverns is easily the best map Blizzard has made.

Metalopolis non-close spawn is also fantastic.

Which makes it all the more dismal that those two maps, one of which has been here since beta and the other since release (Xel'Naga was in only at release, right?) are still the best example of Blizzard mapmaking.

Is TDA blizzard made? Or did they just modify it after it was in the GSL by putting rocks in front of my not horrible fast 3rd. I also don't know if GSL adopted the rocks version, honestly can't remember. I know it used to be vacant though.
