I got about tot he 55 minute mark in the Arsenal match before I had to go do something else. I mean I know they we're mostly our Second team/Young guys and we're already in to the round of 16 but jeeze was that painful to watch.

Basel at home goes through to the knockout stages if they beat ManU, that'd be pretty awesome.
Trabzonspor and Lille and CSKA Moscow are all in it in group B. Trab or Lille go through if they are victorious over eachother, if they tie and Moscow loses to Inter Trab goes through, if they tie and Moscow beats Inter then Moscow is through.
Man City needs a win vs Bayern and have Villareal tie or beat Napoli
Lyon need an 8 goal swing to overtake Ajax, so that's pretty much decided. And I love Ajax.
But 4 really tense matches tomorrow, lookin good
Half times!!!
Basel 1 - Manu 0
Trab 0 - Lille 0
Moscow 0 - Inter 0
ManC 1 - Bayern 0
Villa 0 - Napoli 0
Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) announced today that its Board of Governors has voted to suspend the 2012 season to permit the League to focus on the resolution of certain pending legal issues and the challenges that now face the League as a result of its ongoing dispute with a former owner.
I highly doubt they'll be able to recover for the 2013 season.
Also sad considering a quick wikipedia check reveals that after the WPS teams fold only one player on the women's US national team has a club to call home.
There was an upset, and the crowd ran onto the field and attacked the players.
Pretty straightforward?
well straightforward except for the fact that it all took place in a country that is less than a year removed from revolution and has significant ongoing tensions
not to say that those things definitely were significant factors in this violence, just that we can't really say one way or the other. the backdrop of violence is probably important.
Disingenuous like insinuating riots resulting in casualties exceeding 70 as common in the world of soccer??
And the simple answer is size, or popularity. This is the human condition. The reason most sports related violence is centered around soccer is because it is the largest and most popular sport in the world.
If soccer fans are a minority in the United States, then MLS fans are a minority within a minority.
But fuck that!
We got MLS action returning for a new season this week!
Opening Kick Weekend (+ Monday):
Saturday, March 10
Columbus at Colorado, 6:00
Montreal at Vancouver, 6:00 (TSN, RDS)
Kansas City at DC United, 7:30
New England at San Jose, 10:30
Salt Lake at Los Angeles, 10:30
Sunday, March 11
New York at Dallas, 3:00 (NBC Sports)
Houston at Chivas USA, 7:00 (Galavision)
Monday, March 12
Philadelphia at Portland, 9:30 (ESPN2 and ESPNDeportes)
EDIT: All times Eastern, but not necessarily Eastern Daylight Savings Time. Saturday is still Standard Time, and we set those clocks forward very early on Sunday morning.
I remember going to the DC United v. Philly Union US Open Cup play-in game last season, and hanging out with some DC fans at halftime it only took about half a cigarette to come to the conclusion that the one thing we have in common is we all hate Red Bull.
And yeah, March 31, when Vancouver comes to PPL, is going to be weird. I have no idea what kind of vibe is going to rule the day. I've decided I'm not going to yell the customary "Sucks!" after they announce his name during player intros, but that's all the courtesy I'm showing him.
Also, condolences on the last minute goal from Sapong. As it was two Eastern Conference teams playing, I was rooting for a tie.
True. He apparently really wanted to stay in Philly. I really wanted him to stay in Philly.
But the fact of the matter is he's no longer a part of the Union. The Union was not one player. When he's playing against us, I'm not particularly disposed to cheer for him. I won't heckle him either though.

We have nothing on international soccer fans.

There's a really long list of violent incidents with 70+ deaths at soccer matches.

It isn't like this is a strange occurence. People get mad about soccer en masse, it is really weird how common it is.
And you should maybe read up on them!
And Peru and Moscow were the result of police brutality, not analogous to the Egypt situation at all.
Pretending this is some sort of outlier is disingenuous.

Here's a book you should read http://www.amazon.com/How-Soccer-Explains-World-Globalization/dp/B004F9OUY4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328314222&sr=8-1

My first reaction to the above post was wanting to high five you, simply because I'm just so happy MLS is back.
But it won't take long.
Also like 18 hours left to get in on this:
MLS live free weekend too, if you wanna watch but have no other means.

I had managed to not let the trade get to me too much until that goal.
uhg.

It has begun.
