"You have him on the ropes, Stringshot again, it's your only hope!'
no damage
Shock the boring Weedle: 1d6 1
no damage
"Well. Crap."
Edit: Commence ineffectual slapfight!
thank goodness no one has real attacks!
"Just keep attacking, Sandshrew! Sand Attack, forever!"
slap ineffectually! sand attack!: 1d6 3
In the stands, the spectators begin to yawn, and shuffle about.

animals other than sandshrew
please proceed
Weedle pants and tries again:
I hate you Orokos: 1d6 2
To no avail.
Also I don't really hate Orokos.

We want blood!
The voltage is so high that even those immune to electricity can be hurt! Such pokemon count their electric defence as 5 against these attacks.

that is harsh
hummmmm...
this disincentivizes attacking completely, is there a way i can do that and not get shocked?

I'll rule that as soon as one pokemon is down the shocks go back to normal.

Edit: But I'm about to leave. Hope I get to take one more turn before I gooooooo go go.
'SANDSHREW! GET IT IN GEAR, NOW!"
Sandshrew scrambles to put together a decent attack, with ominous sizzling in the background from the increased voltage.
Sand Attack! Break Defenses!: 1d6+1d6 6 + 5
(i rolled both dice at once, to make it concise. first attack hit, break defenses was useless! sigh...)
All that shouting took a toll on the normally nice trainer.
Stress from super attack.: 1d6 3
Sandshrew's Defense Curl triggers! Sandshrew's Sand Attack triggers!
Sandshrew's defense against normal attacks is 5, and Weedle takes -1 to make normal attacks.
Weedle takes 3 Stress, Nice Trainer takes 3 stress.
"Weedle, do what you have to. You have no choice."
"Weedle" it responds grimly before charging off.
The weedle charges forward before leaping into the air,
+ Break Defense: BREAK DEFENSE (I accidently rolled 2d6 before this whoops): 1d6 1
= 2. Of course the only thing higher than a 3 I roll doesn't count because I accidently rolled 2d6.
Well, and this:
Super Attacks Hurt!: 1d6 6
And Weedle's Damage: 5
Weedle is shocked to death for his bravery, Elliot gets a headache, and out comes
Meowth!
Goddamnit.
Voltage is now lowered back to 1d6.

Nice Trainer is at 2 stress.
She smiles broadly.
"Don't give them a chance! Sandshrew, Sand Attack Combo!"
Sand Attack + Follow Through on Meowth!: 2d6 5,5
Meowth takes a pair of punishing sandy blows to the face!
3 stress, then 3 stress.
Nice Trainer takes more stress... seems like all this excitement is catching up with her.
stress from follow through: 1d6 3
2+3 = 5 Stress total for Nice Trainer.
Next turn: Sandshrew's Defense vs. Normal is 5, since defense curl triggered.
Meowth gets -1 to Normal Attack rolls.
We won't go back and redo anything but the way meowth was thrown down wasn't quite right, so make sure you've all read the throwing down and recalling pokemon section in the game doc.

Also Spoit, I saw your name and thought it was the appropriate sound effect.
Meowth can attack before my attack! i don't mind!
i thought the turns just alternated, and since Weedle just attacked, i assumed wrong things.

Again, we won't go back, as I only just noticed myself. Just a reminder to all to make sure you aren't missing out by not checking your rules!

that is totally counter-intuitive, suga.
also: free switch on an idle turn would totally make sense, since it's not a tense situation.
more like breathing room, which is how the game handles it.
You gotta watch out for the lack of "if this attack causes Stress." Those are the best moves
It makes sense, too. How often when stung by a bee or whatnot do you think, "ow! That pointy thingie really hurt when it pierced my skin!"? No, you think "Ow! That venom is making my foot feel like it's on fire!"

this sting that ineffectively glances off
and i do not feel that it causes poison
because the function of the stinger is to deliver poison by injection
ergo, if there is no stinging, no injection, there can be no poisoning
Re-think the attack. The sting hits and injects poison every single time. The roll is to determine whether it went deep enough or hit a vulnerable spot to cause damage on it's own.
Problem. Solved.

As for weedle the intention is that if he wants to sting you, he will. It's just whether he gets to cause you stress too or not, remembering this doesn't necessarily mean a bigger physical hit.
Yes, this may be counter intuitive at first but I think its something you'd get used to pretty quick with help from the gm.
