I swear to God Lucedes, if I somehow manage to beat Sandshrew and your other two pokemon are Sandshrew, there will be no end. NO END.

    Weedle pants and tries again:
    To no avail.
Also I don't really hate Orokos.

This is going to be one of those matches where we run out of PP

  • SUPERSUGASUPERSUGA Registered User regular
Effective immediately the shock arena now makes a 2d6 attack against anyone that makes an unsuccessful attack.

The voltage is so high that even those immune to electricity can be hurt! Such pokemon count their electric defence as 5 against these attacks.
    Spoiler:

  • piLpiL Registered User regular
Don't worry Suga, it'll be 6s from here on out!

  • LucedesLucedes Registered User regular
    well damn

    that is harsh

    hummmmm...

this disincentivizes attacking completely, is there a way i can do that and not get shocked?

Remember you have super attacks at your disposal. And no, as it stands you must attack.

I'll rule that as soon as one pokemon is down the shocks go back to normal.

'SANDSHREW! GET IT IN GEAR, NOW!"

Sandshrew scrambles to put together a decent attack, with ominous sizzling in the background from the increased voltage.

Weedle is buried in a mound of sand and "worms" its way out, covered in scratches and torn flesh.

"Weedle, do what you have to. You have no choice."

"Weedle" it responds grimly before charging off.

The weedle charges forward before leaping into the air,

I feel so bad for you, pil :(

Voltage is now lowered back to 1d6.

  • SUPERSUGASUPERSUGA Registered User regular
Although meowth's fronts attack power looks very useful here! I'd rule it protects him from the shock cage.

  • LucedesLucedes Registered User regular
also, to add insult to injury, Stress Fix! Protective: Your Pokemon has not taken any Stress since its last turn.
Nice Trainer is at 2 stress.

    She smiles broadly.

"Don't give them a chance! Sandshrew, Sand Attack Combo!"

Ha. This is hilarious. Cool game Suga.

  • SUPERSUGASUPERSUGA Registered User regular
Remember that when your trainer reaches their stress limit you suffer -1 to attacks and can't use super attacks or trainer bonus powers.

We won't go back and redo anything but the way meowth was thrown down wasn't quite right, so make sure you've all read the throwing down and recalling pokemon section in the game doc.

  • EgosEgos God Hand Registered User regular
Meowth was suppose to attack, piL :(

Sorry, posting from my phone. I was late in leaving trying to get one more post because I don't expect to have very much access today.

Also Spoit, I saw your name and thought it was the appropriate sound effect.

  • LucedesLucedes Registered User regular
    oh!

Meowth can attack before my attack! i don't mind!

i thought the turns just alternated, and since Weedle just attacked, i assumed wrong things.

Well new pokemon are thrown down at the start of the owner's turn, so sandshrew would have had a turn with no opponent, which is an area I actually need to address in the rules. I'd say he could use any action he wanted, ideally to grant himself a bonus, but won't treat attacks as unsuccessful as there's no target. I'll add this into the rules soon.

  • SUPERSUGASUPERSUGA Registered User regular
Not to rub further salt into your wounds, pil, but weedle's poison sting doesn't need to hit to cause a poison token, and as such is only unsuccessful if the target is immune to poison (sometime miswritten in the doc as 'ignores poison tokens' which is misleading.

Again, we won't go back, as I only just noticed myself. Just a reminder to all to make sure you aren't missing out by not checking your rules!

  • LucedesLucedes Registered User regular
how does it poison if it doesn't hit?
    that is totally counter-intuitive, suga.

also: free switch on an idle turn would totally make sense, since it's not a tense situation.
more like breathing room, which is how the game handles it.

You gotta watch out for the lack of "if this attack causes Stress." Those are the best moves :P

It makes sense, too. How often when stung by a bee or whatnot do you think, "ow! That pointy thingie really hurt when it pierced my skin!"? No, you think "Ow! That venom is making my foot feel like it's on fire!"

like i am picturing this sting
this sting that ineffectively glances off
and i do not feel that it causes poison

because the function of the stinger is to deliver poison by injection
ergo, if there is no stinging, no injection, there can be no poisoning

Re-think the attack. The sting hits and injects poison every single time. The roll is to determine whether it went deep enough or hit a vulnerable spot to cause damage on it's own.

    Problem. Solved. :P

    It's that poison-y

It's also worth remembering that stress is quite abstract and may not always mean a physical hit. Having to dive to the ground to avoid a knockout blow would cause stress, for example, without physical contact. It's all down to how the players describe things. It's a bit of a shift from HP but that's why I used stress and not HP.

As for weedle the intention is that if he wants to sting you, he will. It's just whether he gets to cause you stress too or not, remembering this doesn't necessarily mean a bigger physical hit.

Yes, this may be counter intuitive at first but I think its something you'd get used to pretty quick with help from the gm.

it is pretty much relentlessly dumb forever, but that's cool.
