NYC advice needed! I fly in from the UK with my wife on Thursday to Newark. What's the cheapest/best way to get to Times square? Our hotel is just off from there.

Like BEAST! says, NJ Transit runs from the Newark airport straight into NYC's Penn Station. From Penn Station, you'll want to take the 1, 2, or 3 train uptown to Times Square. Pretty easy!

Taxi. It's flat rate from Manhattan to JFK.
Getting a taxi or shuttle out of Newark would be a good idea if your wife is insisting. It would be a hell of a lot quicker than taking NJ Transit + walking/taking the subway/getting a cab.

Actually my wife got the wrong hotel, we're west of Central Park, not anywhere near Times Square.
Shuttle seems to be fairly cheap ($33 with goairlinkshuttle.com) but it's going to take us ages to get in (flight arrives at 3:30, pick up time 4:20, drop off 6:15).
May just grab the NJ Transit/Air train (whatever it's called) to NY Penn and then a taxi from there to the hotel. Then maybe book a shuttle to get us to JFK for the flight back.
