One of the new techs you'll see in the near future is that the power grid will also be networked. Your house will have an IP. They envision Entergy or someone being able to tailor your energy usage to your home via IP down to even micromanaging your devices because they'll have IPs.
Going on vacation? Alright. Entergy will only send enough power to your AC and your alarm system.
For example.
Someone is going to hack that system and surge peoples houses at will. Awesome.
Also scary.
"Now the key to this is blending it at the lowest setting, otherwise WWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR noooooo lulzsec!"
Somehow I doubt we're going to run out in 30 years.
It really would not suprise me if we did. Hell, even in 10-20 years.
Now with the current range of devices and internet infrastructure it would take a hell of a long time of growth to run out of IPV6 address space that's true. But what I expect is that the sudden massive availability of a previously scarce resource (address space) will lead to the development of new technologies (and I have no idea what these might be) that take advantage of this adundance and that this will radicially change the rate of growth of addresses to the point that they will get scarce again before we expect.
Yeah but man 38 zeros.
That's like a zero for every dick preacher sucks on a good business night.
Take the 150 IP per person. Now give a generous population increase to 10 billion. Congrats you've now used an miniscule part of the 340 undecillion (I didn't even know that was a number) addresses. How miniscule? 4.41176471 × 10^-27

Yup.
Everyone's personal device having a direct, public, IP's gonna cause a huge load of problems.

Charlie Stross has a new novel out, Rule 34, which sort of goes into this. 3D personal printers too. Worth reading

I always pictured you as Skwisgaar Skwigelf, I shouldn't have assumed.

I think they're getting pretty sick of it
There's also some copper in there.
Obviously not serious but even an allusion to shooting a member of Congress can be a bad idea.
(Unless you're a right winger in which case I think they just stamp it with "whatcha expect?")

Man the self-hatred. Why you throwing around the slurs?

i am posting to you from the far away land of canada!
crazy times on the market, eh?
(see i am in canada)
if someone wants to publish a book they send a query to an agency or a publisher
and then I send them a form letter back telling them that it's bad and they should feel bad

I have some questions while I'm there.
Is a maple syrup based economy as prone to market fluctuations?
And are Canadians terrible drivers in the mother land too or are they just trolling us?
I got as far as the title and ordered 5 copies.
(actually, amazon reviews sound promising)
Ah, gotcha, not quite what I was thinking.
