These guys! You know them right? Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman! Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman! Cyborg! Green Arrow! Uh...Purple Lady! The Little Mermaid!

DC Comics, home to the characters above as well as hundreds more, is one of the two largest comic companies in America. This year they are launching a bold new strategy and are rebooting the entire DC Universe! The intent is to streamline the decades of publishing history and make comics more accessible to new readers. So, don't worry if you've never read a comic before or have only watched the Justice League cartoon! This is a brave new world, designed to be enjoyed by people just like you!

New Universe? But what about the other comics before this?
Most of them still happened! Even if they didn't, that shouldn't stop you from enjoying a good story. But, for the purpose of this post, the new DC Universe started 6 years ago(in-universe time). That was when Superman arrived on the scene, the world's first superhero. A year after that The Justice League is founded by Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. The five year gap between then and now is where all of the stories that happened prior to this reboot occurred, but you don't need to worry about them if you don't want to. Ideally, you will be able to read any book here with no prior knowledge of the character.

Oh god will I have to go into a comic shop?
Maybe! If you want to, you can locate a local comic shop via www.mycomicshop.com. Retailers will, mostly, be more than happy to help you find the books you want and even set up a list of books to order for you each month if you find some you enjoy! Some stores offer discounts for this, so ask around! If you don't feel like going out into the harsh sunlight, you're in luck! All of the new DC titles will be available digitally the same day as they release in store via either www.comixology.com or a Comixology app available on most smartphones. All titles will be priced 2.99, barring a few exceptions featuring extra pages, and will drop to 1.99 a month after release on digital platforms.

Well, okay. What comics can I pick from?
A ton! There are a total of 52 new ongoing series launching, with more to come! They cover a wide range of genres, so even if superheroes aren't your thing you can find something you might like! Here is a list of all of the New 52, divided up into groups.

That is silly since it probably would do no such thing and only result in a bunch of writers losing their jobs and good comics not being published

this reboot as a whole seems sloppy and horrible but i guess we'll get some good books that aren't sloppy and horrible out of it.
I don't really care about innercompany politics

I read comics for fun and there are a shit ton of comics coming out of this that I want to read

not gonna lie i kind of want it to fail and for said failure to cause a shake-up at DC

That is silly since it probably would do no such thing and only result in a bunch of writers losing their jobs and good comics not being published

kind of like what the DC relaunch did.

oh god i am so bitter tonight.

Positivity has been hard in the face of DC's silly decisions regarding this reboot

Ok, All Star Western sounds like it'll be good times. I'd like to pick up a Batman, but not all the Batmen, not sure which would be best....

If you want a straight up Bruce Wayne as Batman book get either Batman or Batman and Robin, both will be great.

If you want something from the Bat-Family I recommend either Nightwing or Red Hood.

Red Hood did look nice. I think I'll get that one, Batman, and All Star Western. Other DC stuff is too much for my weak Marvel-based constitution.

    All pretty solid choices!

If you think of picking up more I think you'd dig Deathstroke and Stormwatch as well.

I wish Steph was still Batgirl

She is by far the best one. Babs is best as Oracle and Cass is best ignored
