Justice League International: Now Accepting Members

jlifinalcover1.jpg

What is this?
This is a PL 14 Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition pbp game following the adventures of the Justice League International intended for 3 players.

Wow. Really?
Yes really.

Can I play?
Yes, assuming you can submit a character sheet, bio, and sample IC post for your character by August 18. Also if you submit a character please be able to post once a day, weekends and holidays aside. I understand people have lives.

Campaign Information:

With the upcoming relaunch of the DC universe I decided to try my hands at running a Mutants and Masterminds game once again. Our story will be taking place in what amounts to Issue #1 of Justice League International which is set in a whole new DC Universe.

Now as for the tone of the game I'm looking for something more serious and set along the lines of Generation Lost rather than the much more comical JLI series that came earlier. That said I want you guys to have fun with this and I expect more than a little bit of IC bickering and name calling.

Character Submission Guidelines
-PL 14
-Character Sheet, Bio, Sample IC Post
-Your character should not already be a member of the JLI already as the organization hasn't been created yet. We'll be covering that in game.
-As we are in a new universe I do need a bio, even if you want to play a well known character. That way I can be aware of any changes you make to their history.
-Characters may be chosen from the DC roster, I will also accept original submissions if they really wow me.
-Keep in mind that this is supposed to be the Justice League International so I want to see characters from several nations represented here.

I'll probably have to add to this later on but I think that I got the general idea filled in here.

This looks like alot of fun. But i've never played Mutants and Masterminds. So i'll probably not submit a char, but i'll be watching the fun to learn the game mechanics. I've always wanted to run/play a great superhero game. The closest i came was trying to recreate City of Heroes with BESM 3rd ed. It didn't work out that well.

Well M&M 3e is faily simple to get a handle on so it doesn't take that long to learn. Honestly the system is the best for superhero games and it is very fun, investing in the book is well worth the price in my opinion.

If you decide to submit a character and you end up in the party I'm sure we can have you set in no time.

I just want to make a quick note while people are kicking around character ideas. Because Horseshoe is portraying Booster Gold in Metropolis, and doing such a good job of it I don't think we'll find a better player fill the role, I won't be accepting anyone who is trying to take up that role. Booster Gold will have a role to play in JLI but I'd rather not have someone devoting themself to the character full time.

I would welcome a Ruski Green Lantern. Or a Rocket Red if you're going to go the Russina route. I always found it odd that every green latern ring goes to an American so a a Russian Green Lantern would be pretty interesting.

    No Red Son please.

I was actually going to steal a page from Mr. Welch's list and ask to play Good Hitler.

Actually am looking around to see if I still have my Player's Handbook somewhere. I'll see if I can whip something up that's not an alternate universe version of a genocidal asshole sans mustache.

Ok, i'll pitch an idea and see if i can get in or not. I love the idea of The Flash, one of my fav super heros. But i think his history is too well known, so i'd like to create my own. I'd like to be a speedster created directly by the Speed Force. A "virgance" if you will, sorry George Lucas it's the only thing that works.

Anyways, he's brought into existance because speedsters everywhere are begining to rely to much on it's power, and he has to bring balance. He struggles with human concepts of social engagement. His isn't as clumsy as some speedsters, so his weakness will be that his powers aren't dependable, especially against other speedsters, so he has to learn how to tell them what they are doing to the speed force. Forcing him to over come his social ineptitude (sorry spelling?).

That's what i'd like to play, if that seems like too much or not enough, i'd just go with kid flash (wally west).

INNS: Well Generation Lost is good for the latest version of the character, the OMAC Project is great for a final glimpse of the original guy. That pretty much defines the character in my mind. He is spread throughout JLI pretty well though. I love the fact that their armor was made by Kilowog by the way. Honestly if you'r going to play the Rocket Red most people know and love the major aspect of his character is that he is a family man first last and always. He also ad a relationship with Animal Man that was very simlar to Booster Gold/Blue Beetle. They bonded because they were pretty much the only JLI members with families.

Texasheat: If you want to play the Flash I don't have a problem with that, again we're playing this in a whole new universe so you can tweak his history as you see fit. Wally West, the original Kid Flash has been a member of the team in the past so I could see either one of them taking up the role in this.

I like your original concept as well, the mechanics of it might be a bit tricky though.

I'd have to look at the books, but i'm think of making him a social kind of class, something charisma based, but with low charisma, if that's even how stats are in this game. Then give him powers simular to the flash. Again i need to look at the books to really flesh out the details, but i'll try to download a PDF later this week and see what i can come up with.

    Bio
Emmanuel Deltante was born in a small village in Haiti and was a moderately successful Vodou priest, also known as a Houngans ; he also had trained as a doctor and combined those skills with his firm belief in Vodou. He became to be known as a truly successful healer for those who came to him for any help, and his overwhelming charisma help him earn the trust of all who came to him for help. Since he relied heavily on local herbs to make some of his medicines; Emmanuel worked heavily with groups trying to prevent the massive deforestation in Haiti as well working on an environmental renewal program for the country. Sadly all his work in those areas was usually ignored or achieved little to no actual results.

During the great earthquake of 2010, Emmanuel was out in one of the few forests left within the country, a chasm opened up beneath the Houngans sending him plummeting into the darkness below. When he came to he found himself in a small cavern covered in vegetation with a small alter in the middle of the room. Above the alter was a pulsing green orb of light.

The light began to grow in intensity until Emmanuel could only see the pale green light. That was when he heard a powerful voice that seemed to fill the room. It told him that it was the loa spirit of Grand Bois, the vodou spirit of nature, and that it as well as several other loa’s were not happy with how the earth was being treated by treated by not only Haiti but the rest of the world. The current earthquake in Haiti was the first of many warnings, but the spirits of the world did not believe these events would truly create a difference in how humanity treated the earth, and so Grand Bois decided to create an avatar of himself on the planet.
He had chose Emmanuel for not only his strong beliefs, but his ability to mix modern science and medicine with more natural and traditional forms of healing. He would be tasked to do whatever he can to change the views of the world on how to regard nature, but he could not force people into changing how they act for that would be no true conversion. In exchange Emmanuel would be granted many gifts and powers from Grand Bois to use in whatever way he deemed appropriate to show the world that with proper respect to nature comes many great gifts and rewards.

Emmanuel agreed to this deal and when the bright green light eventually faded showing the Houngans that he was now within the same forest, showing no signs of having been touched by the earthquake. He discovered that with a simple thought he could enter an “avatar state” changing his appearance to a more befitting physical representation of Grand Bois, at the same time he discovered he had control over any form of vegetation, and could even create plant life around himself.
When he returned to society many people ran from him in terror, thinking him to be a vengeful spirit. Without saying a word, Emmanuel would go up to those who were injured and heal them with just a touch, he would also help in the effort in rescue those who were trapped beneath rubble. He would do this by creating vines, pillars, and ramps of vegetation to remove the rubble. He was soon cheered on as a saviour, and for the following months he would travel across Haiti helping anywhere and everywhere he could. Eventually he approached the Haitian government, and for the first time he revealed himself to be the avatar of Grand Bois and he was here to help return Haiti to its form glory as a beautiful and lush region. By that time he had gained massive amounts of favour and love from the local populace, and the Hatian government had no choice but to agree and create a plan to revitalize Haiti.

Ever since then, Emmanuel would go out to the rest of the world and try to teach the rest of the world to try and change their ways. Unfortunately most people were mistrustful of him since he was a vodou spirit, and their perceptions of “voodoo” were tainted by its depictions of the belief system by the media, as a form of controlling other people against their will and by placing curses on others. Oddly enough they never turned down his help when he showed up at a moment of crisis.
    IC Post
Grand Bois walked along the ruined streets of Tokyo trying to find anyone else in need of help after the earthquake and tsunami that hit the major city. The sound of glass shattering caused him to look towards a set of storefronts, where a man had just broken the front window of an electronics shop. Sighing at the sight of someone deciding it was better for them to loot then to aid those in need, Grand Bois turned towards the man. With a wave of his hand, a massive wall of tightly interwoven vines erupted from the ground and blocked the man from entering through the broken window. The man jumped in surprise and turned around, eyes opening wide in terror at the sight of what stood before him.
Grand Bois had grown accustomed to that look, and he understood it mans fear. The avatar was over six feet tall, with long limber limbs and dark green skin. A long beard of interwoven roots sprouted from underneath his chin, and his pupiless eyes glowed a bright green. He had long red hair that flowed freely down his back, and upon close inspection people would notice that his nails were long, sharp, and made of tree bark.

Seeing that the man was about to run, Grand Bois smiled and uttered a simple word. ”Stop” The man didn’t know English, but the avatars heavily accented English rung with a sense of power that the meaning was still apparent to him. The looter stood there unmoving as Grand Bois approached him and placed a gaunt hand on the mans shoulders.
”I know you can’t understand me, but I don’t think that will be a problem will it?” The man said nothing and just stared into the glowing eyes of Grand Bois. Smiling the avatar channeled some of his inner energy through himself and into the man. He was weak minded, and entering his psyche required little to no effort. ”I think it’s time you stopped focusing on yourself for a little bit and focused on helping your fellow man. So how about you go look for anyone that needs help. Once you do go to the nearest tree, flower, whatever, as long as it has roots then it will do. Tell it that you have found someone that is either trapped or injured and that my assistance is required. They’ll get the message to me. Now go.”

The man finally blinked and ran off in a random direction. Grand Bois watched the man go and with a snap of his fingers the wall of vegetation crumbled into the ground revealing the ruined window. The avatar then turned in the opposite direction of where the looter went and continued looking around for anyone who needed help.

Kep in mind guys we're playing in the DC universe so I'll probably only take one totally new character at the most unless I get some truly incredible ones. Just a fair warning since a number of people seem to be planning to put in original characters

Legacy charactrers being the odd exception. Like if INNS decides to play an enitrely new Rocket Red for example.

I'm going to try to pick up some comics where Dmitri Pushkin shows up, because I like the Rocket Red armor.

I'm still not even sure what the powers are, which is a bad thing, I guess. Wikipedia doesn't distinguish between their internal powers from 'forced evolution' and what their suit provides.

Well I'm not completely certain but here is a breakdown that I think makes sense. I think their super strength out of their armor is minimal, like peak of human potential, the armor would probably further augment it to low/medium superhuman levels.

    Forced Evolution: Mecha-Empathy, super strength,
Rocket Red Suits: Invulnerability, energy blasts, flight

Neat. I am going through Generation Lost now. I like the armor that the rest of the Brigade wears more than 07's personal armor.

That is fine, you could always go with that look if you want to. All of the Rocket Reds look pretty awesome to me. Their looks is just so unique in the DC universe.

I'd be fine with you doing a second application if you feel up to it.

Ya that's no problem since I have the excel character builder from atomicthinktank. However after reading what they've done to Green Arrow in this new revamp, it is far less interesting then I expected So I have a couple questions for you.
1)If I do make a version of the Green Arrow do you mind if I change things around with his background, because as they have it now he has zero training to be an effective hero. I'll keep the majority of his background with him running a company that makes weapons from the confiscated gadgets of captured villains, and his being killed as a result of his hubris.
    2) If option 1 is not ok I saw that Captain Cold is a hero now and joker is female, so was wondering if you'd be fine with me making a previous villain into a hero. I was thinking either re fluffing my previous application as male version of more powerful Poison Ivy, or turning Bane into a hero.

That was in Flashpoint. We'll be playing after that so don't worry.

I don't have a prolbem with you altering Green Arrow but we will be playing post Flashpoint so you don't have to stick with his business from that series. You can make up pretty much whatever you want within reason.

The idea of Poison Ivy or Bane being in JLI seems a bit odd. I'd need a really amazing reason for their sudden turn arounds since they're both pretty major league criminals.

errr I didn't even think of spoilers. Ya they've made several changes to some characters in the series.

    Major Batman Spoilers within.
The current Batman is actually Thomas Wayne. That night in the alleyway it was Bruce who died and not his parents. His father became Batman without the moral code, and Martha Wayne had a massive emotional breakdown and became the joker.

Depending on the writer, Ivy has a heroic side somewhere deep within her. An Ivy trying to go straight isn't really outside the realm of possibility, the way I see it. Some people write her as pretty much an evil bitch, while others write her as sympathetic and misguided with the potential for good.

I'm not saying Ivy or Bane turning good isn't a possibility. Having them serve on the Justice League is quite a way away from anything they've done in the past though. Again not saying I won't allow it but it needs to make sense.

That sounds stupid almost to the point of One More Day. Possibly even beyond.

Thinking I might play with Gentleman Ghost's concept, turning him into a hero (obviously) and adding actual powers beyond being a ghost which is not in itself too powerful. Would that work?
