Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Matchmaking that actually works?

As with their other multiplayer games, I suspect that this is something that they're going to be updating for a long time after release. Which probably explains why they felt patching would be too big a hurdle if they had to keep parity between the two versions.

Aww, Valve you shouldn't have. Just for me? D'awww.

The big draw to Counter strike has always been mastering the gun feedback while at the same time, aiming for head shots that had a distinctive sound and massive damage when you hit them. From what I've seen of gameplay, those features are missing.
Time will tell the outcome of this game.

And because most people I know that play source pirate it. Maybe a more accessible price will convince them to pay up.
because of hats
Well I mean assuming you bought HL2 when it came out, you got CSS for free.
CSS is still 19.99 though which is kind of strange when GO is coming out at 15. I don't know. I used to think it was going to be the next CS everyone moves to and I think it's going to be popular but I don't think it's meant to replace source anymore. I feel like it's more of a condition zero kind of thing and they're both going to have separate communities.
Controlling kick is still the pre-eminent skill differentiator.
You still get the clunk when you headshot.
Distance bursting is more than ever the bread and butter of good play.
The reason behind the pricing is nothing to do with quality, it's absolutely to do with economics. Valve don't want to split the playerbase; they also have learnt a lot from free to play and mid-priced models. The pricing decision will be backed up with some pretty hard numbers.
On negatives, I only really have a couple of gripes, and only one serious.
Serious:
- Scout is next to useless right now. The new 'floatiness' of sniping means that you're often better off with a rifle or even SMG. It's pretty annoying when they used to be one of the most agile and sensitive weapon options.
Less serious:
- Incendiaries and Molotovs make large-scale matches less viable. Doesn't really bother me that much as I mostly play 5:5 to 7:7 matches.
- The new shotgun is a bit too powerful
- Bots are kinda bullshitty
- Seriously, you still have to equip the knife first? Melee buttons are an improvement.
But this is definitely a good game and a worthy successor. Enough has changed, but not too much.
How the fuck do I mute people?
In the games defense, I really haven't played CS in any sort of serious capacity since 2006, so /shrug.
They recently gave me a spare to send to someone on my friend's list (which I already did, sorry). But if you keep asking I'm sure you'll eventually find someone.
It's not a bad game, all in all. I haven't played Counterstrike since like 2002, and good news, guys! I still suck at it! I guess the best and worst thing I can say for it right now is that the number one thing which is preventing me from pulling the trigger on purchasing it is the fact that the only people who use voice chat are the sort of people who should have their fucking tongues cut out of their skulls.
I haven't heard this much African American-centric racial slurring since I stopped watching The Wire, and hearing it from a prepubescent white boy makes it extra fucking unsavory.

Friggin life getting in the way all the time.
Almost anything which they did to change it would have generated the complaint that it's really just a knock-off of some other multiplayer FPS. I'm not entirely sure I love this game or whether it's worth $15 for what amounts to primarily superficial changes, but I will say this about it: I definitely recognize it as Counterstrike and not MW3.
I do really wish they had implemented a melee button though.
Movitz, you got there first. Winging your way - once the store is back online.
But then where would be the joy inherent in equipping your knife at the beginning of the match so that you can run to your kick-off position faster?
Because gaming the movement speed thing is totally fun, right?
Haha, that'll take two weeks I reckon. The summer sale is indeed a taxing experience for the poor servers. Not to mention me, I haven't been able to look through half the titles yet due to timeouts. I guess it will be better tomorrow when all the frothing murricans will be sleeping
I appreciate the key! Thanks mate!
ed: Ohgod the horror, is there no way to make a decent smiley nowadays? I only get icons!
Ed. Sent a PM. Took me long enough to figure out how that worked on the vanilla forums.

Same. I'm interested to see what direction they eventually take the game.
It kicks all the older Source stuff's ass, but, I wanna be sure.
Just pre-ordered too. I wonder if this will replace CS:S as that game I always like playing when I'm sick of playing other things.

I was not at all a fan initially. The game grew on me after I learned the maps in the offline/bot mode, however, and it started feeling particularly more tactical when I learned to shorten my bursts and be a little more liberal with my use of grenades. A game like Counterstrike is kind of a weird thing to play when you're in your 30s and you're competing with the reaction time of nasal whiny racist teenagers, but when you drop a flashbang in front of them first, it gives you the confidence to take your time and aim each shot and giggle about it afterwards.
That said, I'm still not sure I'm going to buy it because at this point in time I can't picture myself playing any FPS that isn't Planetside 2. I'll swing back around and play CS:GO instead if PS2 ends up sucking.
You're judging too fast.
