USB data devices not syncing with machine - USB keyboard/mouse/headset still work. Ideas?

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but here goes.

A few days ago my machine suddenly started having problems with USB devices.

My keyboard, mouse, and headset all work perfectly fine - they pick up voice and are able to be recognized as USB devices. However, with devices that store or transfer data (E.G. my iPad, my camera, my phone, etc.) the computer does not even note that they have been connected. In the case of my iPad, it won't even charge. I have tried swapping the cables around, trading my iPad's with my keyboard's, etc. etc. so I don't think it is a dead USB port. If I recall correctly, it was before I installed my last big Windows Update.

I am running a 64-bit version of Windows 7, if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'd like to be able to sync my devices again!
