Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
So do a lot of people! In fact, so many people like being alive that we go to great lengths to keep them that way, and it's not always easy, simple, cheap, or clean. As it happens some people are very tricky to keep alive, and they may need several surgeries to get to a point where they can even consider leaving a hospital, in order to at least try to live a normal life that so many of us take for granted.
I am fast becoming one of those people, and at some point over the next couple of years I'm probably going to need to have surgery to give me a new kidney, it's kind of irritating me because there's a chance that I'm going to need to take blood out of the system and I can't put it back in myself, and that's where you all come in.
In short, I want you guys to donate blood, because I can't do it, and I have high hopes of you.
If you live in the UK:
Spoiler:
Well, ok, there's no UK wide site for it, because of course we do our different things, but we can still totally do this.
The basic information is simple, and all three websites have ways to look up where to donate for your area, so no excuses.
P.S. Don't tell the foreign chaps about how many websites we need for organising this, they'll make fun.
If you live in the US:
Spoiler:
Alright guys, you make up a pretty big portion of the forum population as far as I can work out, I'm expecting good things from you, don't let me down on this, there's a search facility on the site for finding blood drives in your area, and even a guide, easy peasy.
You guys do the dual language thing, but I don't know any French, so you're just getting the English language site, sorry!
As with all the other countries, you seem to have a pretty solid method for searching to find local clinics to go give blood at, it's almost like the people running this desperately want your blood or something.
Of course giving blood, and the specific rules on it, vary from place to place, but in general you might find yourself unable to donate if you are:
Below a certain weight.
Considered a 'risky' donor due to sexual activity.
Regularly pierced or tattooed.
On certain medication.
Recovering from surgery.
Please, don't be put off by these rules, go and talk to the people at the clinic, find out for certain if you're able to give blood, and try not to be offended if you're not allowed. I understand that some of the rules are pretty contentious, and I'm not entirely happy with them either, but we still need to feed into the system and keep it going.
After all, you never know when you'll need surgery to save your life.
you know, I just realised I haven't seen a blood donation van since I've lived in germany. Do the germans not use them, or am I oblivious?
also my friends and I used to go donate together when we were undergrads (and then go drinking), and one of them kept having needles break on his skin
we called him 'the rhino'

I really don't know, Tynic, when I tried looking it up in English I just got some website called ToyTownGermany, which seemed to be for English language speakers in Germany to chat or something, and the link they provided for donating blood was broken.
If it's your first time giving blood you should probably bring a friend and make sure you eat leading up to the donation. We do drives at work and I've seen a few people get wiped out because they decided to not to eat ahead of time.

They do have those here. They are often announced with flyers/ in local papers and of course on that website you linked. I guess I should go, It's been a while since I stopped doing drugs so I should be eligible now. I'm gonna check out where I could go.
