If there was one thing that disappointed me about Retribution it's that the Imperial Guard don't sound like they did in Winter Assault

One of the things I loved most about playing Imperial Guard was the Commissar, just shouting when you attached him to a squad

I remember playing DoW2's single player campaign to completion, and then trying multiplayer and realizing that they had taken away the gigantic armies and replaced it with microing two or three squads

And I thought that was shitty, especially for the Tyranids

So fuck that game

But Retribution sounds kinda neat... and that Last Stand mode sounds like fun times

I'm still adamant that DoW was best if you played with Dark Crusade mechanics and balance, but not with either of the two new races.

E: I think part of why I didn't really get into DoW2 was that the beta had 2 (3?) 1v1 maps and I didn't really fancy any of them.

I haven't touched any of the DoW2s before Retribution. Couldn't get over the fact that they took out base-building (old fashioned, I know). But when they reintroduced the Imperial Guard, plus an Inquisitor, I couldn't let it pass. Really wasn't disappointed, they pulled off the IG perfectly. I only ever played them and the Eldar, but that's all I really needed.

I played a lot of Company of Heroes but the multiplayer only really shined in 2v2 matches. Everything above and it turns into blind spamfests, and playing 1v1s made me feel like I was missing half the game. It's a shame maphacking is as widespread as it is, I might get back into automatching.

and yeah i am referring specifically to multiplayer on account of DOW2's singleplayer sucked balls in every way

I love CoH and DoW2. I am garbage at multi in both of them. Phare can confirm that. Also I once misclicked and dropped little mines in Butters (we were teammates) base and he got really mad at videogames.

I really need to try out CoOp DoW2 one of these days. Just need to get a working headset.

just put some more time into one or two races in DOW2 until you've gotten some valid strategies down for 'em

i was on a mean losing strike before space marine launched but i think it convinced a bunch of people to buy dawn of war II, cus not only did i win like six games in a row (as eldar, no less - three of them were double eldar, both me and my teammate running support or teleport) and in three of them my teammates all asked me if that was my first match because everyone they'd played with the past day was trying to learn the game

it's so nice when there is a flood of people who are terrible at an RTS and just wanna play a single gay race (CHAOS)

Once upon a time I was pretty damn good at CoH, my 15 seconds of internet fame game when my friends and I match got shoutcasted on that one website that i cannot even remember now.

Pretty sure I would be terrible now at CoH, embarrassingly so.

company of heroes is super hard. i'm stuck on a mission where you have to take and hold the center of this town and they rocket barrage the shit out of it.

if i'm having a hard time with this mission (it's in the first block of missions, no less) i can't imagine i'll ever be able to get much further because there's still five full chapters/campaigns/whatever left after normandy/carentan

also eldar are really goddamn good right now, i nearly killed a great unclean one yesterday with a warp spider exarch, an autarch, and two squads of guardians

we won before i could finish it off though :shades:

this tons of noobs thing is a double edged sword

i just played a match with a placement ranked teammate who, in the course of the whole match, didn't capture a single point, built three guardsmen squads (well, probably more like 15, cus they got eliminated five times and he didn't know how to retreat or reinforce)

dude said "i can't try to cap things there is an army of orcs there"

and i am all "yes we are fighting orcs and the reason we lost is because you didn't even try to take a single node or build power or do anything other then send your lord general and non upgraded guardsmen into hordes of choppa boys over and over" then i had a heart attack
