I was trying to search for this thread earlier.
Thought it was a solid premiere.

I enjoyed how they shook things up, but apparently in the off season some focus group decided Jess should be more approachable and like a woman on tv should be, because two episodes in and all we've learned is that now she's really horny and down to fuck anyone that comes her way who looks good.
Didn't really care for the sudden character change from last season when she was basically untouchable except for presumably the ex boyfriend and Justin Long, who was as odd as she was.

I don't see it. There was an episode last season where
she was looking for a no strings attached lay
and if CeCe hadn't
gotten to Schmidt first, Jess would have slept with him.
I don't think it's a focus group change at all, I think it's what the show always wanted Jess to be and now they have the balls to do it.
I felt the "character change" with Jess was pretty well established.
She lost her job, and Nick told her to basically go do out-of-character things while she had the freedom to do so. Then she lied about her identity and hooked up with Internet Guy. It wasn't really just a random, unexplained event.
Also: I liked the episodes. Yay, New Girl!

Definitely some good episodes. Loved Schmidt fire juggling or whatever that is. It was awesome. Wish we had gotten more of Winston being weird with the fruity drinks.
The second episode made me wish there was more of the Winston/Schmidt/Winston's Sister storyline. It felt awkwardly crammed into the episode. Future Nick was fun times as well.

Yea, I was feeling that as well, but maybe the mom will stick around. Future Nick had me rolling, but I was expecting a more complex reveal at the end. The simplicity of it was still funny.
The last two episodes have been so incredibly funny.
I thought Schmidt and Nick's sexy talk would be the funniest thing that happened on tv in the entire season amongst all shows, but then the last episode happened. Nadia was hilarious. And then Schmidt broke his penis and something amazing happened.
Living in jolly old Great Britain I have only saw this episode a couple of weeks ago. The scene with Schmidt in the hospital, seriously. I was in pain. Real, physical, hurting pain from laughing too much.
Both of the episodes were funny, although the second moreso. They're really starting to hit their stride and just bang out consistently funny episodes now. Still feels like they don't know quite where to go with Winston, which is a shame because every other main character has been developed really well at this point, but that's about the only complaint I have.
EDIT: Also, The Mindy Project was really good. That episode seemed very polished. It didn't feel like a pilot at all. Nice to see a show come out of the gate with a fully formed voice with no need to "find it's legs"

I agree. It's just a shame I find Mindy unlikeable and annoying as hell. But that's just me.

This weeks episode was goddamn amazing. There were so many funny things, and beyond that so many great quotes.
Monkey, Monkey where you hide the cracker.
Got me cookie give you cookie.
CeCe and Jess slapping each other in the boob was hilarious and mildly arousing.
The whole bromance joke and Nick not being capable of doing it was great, and Winston had a good role in that story even though he didn't get to star in it. He had a great joke with his flashback, which will be overshadowed by fat Schmidt eating raw Ramen.
Nadia is an awesome side character and she really shined in this episode.
I missed this episode because my DVR was stupid. Now I'm sad.

Haven't seen it. I think I was in the target demographic.
I saw the commercials for it and I thought "Oh look.. this is something I should be interested in..
but it feels so contrived I'm probably not going to even give it a shot"
Haven't seen Two Broke Girls either.. I think just the name of that turned me off. It screams "what wacky hi-jinks will they get into next?"
Looking at the hellogiggles website.. there's an image of a woman in a dress with tattoos.. something about that (and now that I think about it the two aforementioned shows) just screams "Bell bottoms in the seventies! Pastel in the Eighties! Flannel in the Nineties!" Our culture is dated the minute it happens..
Probably a symptom of the singularity. We're evolving so fast that we have perspective on current events.
Pop culture is dated the moment we recognize it.

mmm jelly beans.
Well, I'm sure we're all better for knowing this...
This week's episode was amazing. Also the previous episode with the millennial neo-hippies was good too.
I wish Two Broke Girls was better than it is. Lots of potential but it's mostly one-liners strung together.
Yeah, TBG has at least one great line every week. Unfortunately it's one of the stupid sitcoms - where you have outstanding moments of awesome, and all the stuff in between is just stupid filler.

But I get to stare at Kat Dennings for 21 minutes!

It's not amazing, but it's not at all close as to what you're describing.
So I watched the last episode on demand last night, and it was really funny, but holy fucking Christ that was the most in your face product placement ever.
Like I don't think it could have been more obvious if I was watching the episode from inside a Ford Focus.
It's not amazing, but it's not at all close as to what you're describing.
What I should have said was that I thought I was the target demographic, then I realized that I would have been if I were ten years younger.
I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Three's Company, Friends, Two and a Half Men..
New Girl (and two broke girls) is the next in a line.
I'm sure a lot of people work really hard on the show and I'm not knocking it.
But It was put on the air because every few years the sitcom format gets an enema and a room full of suits making millions in advertising ask "What do the kids like these days?"
If I were ten years younger I suppose I'd have thought "oh, quirky big eyed girl. This is a show for me!"
But after you've seen the enema a few times you realize "well, yeah.. that's what a sitcom is. It's a formula. The prostitute doesn't REALLY love you - that's what you pay her for."
It's junk food for the minutes of your life. There's nothing THERE.
It takes you and shows you you so that you can say "that's me!".
Of course you're not going to get that until you've got some perspective.
Which is kind of why it still works.
It's targeted toward people that don't realize they are being targeted.. or don't care.
Junk food's great! I'm all for junk food. It's probably really great junk food.
I'm just a bit more selective about where I waste my time than I used to be.
Anyway.. "This is a show: Discuss"
Mine's just another point of view amongst dozens and I don't have anything to add beyond that so..
I'm glad I could give some kid in Portland I don't know nor will ever again think about something to be snide about.. and enjoy your continuing discussion.

Schmidt isn't his real name. His real name is "Smiley friendly man from Veronica Mars".
