Oh, hey, that reminds me. I need to find a new desktop wallpaper. I had Rainbow Dash for a while, but new computer means time for a new wallpaper. I'm tempted to go for some chick in a bikini, but I've never found one that I'd want to look at every day....hmmmm.....

so Drive is really good, although Ross's estimation of it as better than Michael Mann is wildly overstating the case
Better than Michael Man's what?
he said something like Mann is no longer the king of gritty urban crime drama
which is bullshit. Drive is a very good movie and I had a great time, but it is absolutely what you would expect to see if you gave an arty European director a script for a generic heist/movie. Remember The American with Clooney from earlier this year? This is like the crime movie version of that. It's really deliberately low-key, with lots of long, contemplative takes of the actors' still, impassive faces set to a kind of droning trance soundtrack.
It's a very, very, very simple, straightforward story, and again, I don't mind that because it's told well, but it absolutely does not have the level of persnickety, detail-laden verisimilitude that Mann brings to his movies, nor that sense of intelligent, competent people on both sides of the law playing a dangerous, complicated game with each other. Drive is much more straightforward and fatalist.
I haven't seen Drive but are the two even aesthetically comparable? Mann seems to get off on a visual style that focuses on really authentic guerilla cinematography.
Every tailer and spot I've seen for Drive has seemed highly stylized and deliberate.

That's not in widescreen, SiG. Totally inappropriate. Sheesh.
@Arivia I'm hoping the new ep means more multi-ep story arcs. I much prefer my episodic television to have more continuity instead of being contained stories and while kids' shows don't do that often (Avatar notwithstanding), I'm gonna be optimistic.
Because [chat] never misses an opportunity to shit on the mlp fans. :P
has anyone here said anything bad about the MLP premiere

literally the only people I see bringing it up are the fans. largely to talk about how "shat upon" they feel. I find the persecution fantasies intensely tedious.

I don't think it will. This was basically supposed to be the end of Season 1 so it'll be going back to episodic soon.

my favorite Facebook feature is the two people I know who will inevitably post in comments about how much they hate the changes, even if it’s been months since the last one
I have them on ignore and I still see it sometimes
I’m not sure they use it for anything but complaining

It's actually a bit of both! Like, the bulk of the movie is very cool and controlled. But the few action moments in the movie, and some driving-at-night sequences interspersed throughout, really called Collateral and Miami Vice to mind.
Although maybe it's hard to film night driving around LA and not have it feel like Collateral, I dunno.

he had to get real buff for his CG adventure in Green Lantern
also I read once that he actually is naturally skinny like long distance runners usually are and that it takes a lot of work for him to bulk up like that
also he looked like that in The Proposal which was years ago
