You have to fight through some bad days, to earn the best days of your life.
Not really, no. Especially when it comes to extremes. Bush the Lesser, Nixon, Truman, and Hoover all sank just plain sank like a stone rather than having an inverted bell
those are the answers that the candidates gave.
of course that was also around the time of the bonking and bad gateway....

Couldn't resist.
Silly psyck0, they're not racist. They're just concerned for Real Americans. By saying they're racist, you've now proven you've lost the argument.
We can't build a 2000-mile wall. (then he went on to mumble air support on the ground, which I assume means boots in the sky)
Hey, the HPV vaccine mandate was the right thing to do; it easily prevents cancer you jerks.
Also, agreeing with @So It Goes that Perry's shirt collar/lapels made his head look TIIIIIINY. It was pretty funny looking.
"Ha ha ha
You aren't even close to being crazy enough to win the Republican nomination"
tl;dr: Rick Santorum (who is retarded) says some mean things about gay soldiers, again. This should surprise absolutely no one even vaguely familiar with Republican politics in general, and Rick Santorum in particular. GOProud, a group of gay Republicans (which is like being a group of Jewish Nazis, and fucking retarded) gets upset and condemns him, demanding an apology, and thus giving him a boost with conservatives, as well as more media attention. Well done, all around.
I executed a shitload of people: yaaaay!
A guy without insurance is gonna die in the street: yaaaay!
I'm a gay soldier: booooo!
Usually it's the candidates that Poe's law themselves, but lately it's been the crowd.
I don't know, his campaign is a joke, he probably won't make it past the first primary, but yeah, demanding an apology from him is pants on head stupid, as it just gives him a god damn soap box on the issue for the next news cycle.
Right-wing America wants all children to go from conception to birth, but upon birth, fuck trying to keep them alive, and if they're gay or suspected criminals they should be put to death.

I guess you have to deny reality to a far greater degree to be a Republican in the first place, though, so it's not that much of a stretch.
Right-wing America wants all children to go from conception to birth, but upon birth, fuck trying to keep them alive should health complications arise, and if they're gay or suspected criminals they should be put to death.

Oh and also you can just forget about taxpayer funded benefits once you're out of the womb baby, best get familiar with the term "bootstraps."
Although to be entirely fair, I've read a few stories here and there pointing out that religious charities are very good about filling in the gaps for underprivileged children. I've just always found it disheartening that no govt. intrusion shall be overlooked to force women into carrying children to term, while otoh no govt benefit to help said children after they're born can be ruthlessly cut fast enough...
The real problem with America isn't the Republicans or the Democrats. The real problem is the fucking American public. We deserve whatever shitty leadership we get, because the leadership is a reflection of us and if the crowd in this debate is any indication apparently we fucking suck as a citizenry.

Or what the rest of us like to refer to as "the problem."
To some extent, it reminds me of Krusty the Clown's rationale for voting for Sideshow Bob. "One the one hand, he tried to frame me for murder. On the other hand, I am hoping to get into the next income bracket..."
Keep in mind who attends these debates. They're very partisan and very engaged.

I thought about how loaded the term "Economic Freedom" is, and I think Obama, or SOMEONE ought to speechify something like this in the future:
"You know, as a party Republicans talk about having core values rooted in 'Freedom' and 'Personal Liberty' but liberty for who? Freedom to do what? What is freedom? I think most of us define that as the ability to pursue our hopes and dreams in life. So when they talk about Big Government regulation trampling on America's freedom I have to ask. Freedom to do what? To put lead in our water? To build temporarily livable death-traps as homes? To decide to pay their workers in company scrip instead of U.S. dollars? To require their workers to work in hazardous conditions because paying for regular maintenance and safety equipment is hard and then expect the government to subsidize the cleanup when their 'Free Market Experiment' blows up in the Nation's collective face? The freedom to prey on others to make a dollar at all costs?
Because that's the 'freedom' they're talking about, they are espousing an ideology that says that the ability to make money is an intrinsic moral good and must be pursued before all else. That Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness take a back seat to G.E.'s ability to not only avoid paying taxes but be cut a check from the government for Jobs they aren't creating here. Yet, and this really flabbergasts me, they believe very much in Big Government. They want Big Government in the bedrooms of every man, woman and child. They want to tell you who you can love, when you can love them, and how you're allowed to love them. They want to put your entire life under a microscope and every time they feel you're not doing the right thing they want to punish you for it. They want Government to give you a spanking, except instead of a spanking they want government to arrest you or levy a hefty fine. Not because you did anything wrong, not because you hurt anyone, but because what you were doing in the privacy of your own home happens to offend some people. Now that to me, is the definition of Nanny state. If you're not as uptight as an old time school teacher government's going to crack the ruler over your knuckles until you do what we want you to do.
I just don't think that's what America believes in, I don't believe that's who we are as a people and I reject that ideology. I reject an ideology that defines human happiness entirely as a person's ability to make money. I reject the idea that it is wrong to ask people to be safe, and be responsible when they pursue their hopes and dreams, and most importantly I REJECT unnecessary government intrusion into people's lives. I think people's ability to be treated equally, respectfully and to find the person they love most in life is far more important than my ability to buy Cigarettes at $3.00 a pack, that making sure that no American is left out on the street to die, is more important than Wall Street being able to pay its CEOs another bonus, and that making sure our Children are prepared to compete in a 21st century Economy is far, FAR more important than some people's desire to make their children believe in non-science than in science. And Let me make that last point exceptionally clear, you can teach your kids whatever you want. These people are just upset because of what other people's kids are being taught, they are upset because they don't want anyone to learn these things. I'm sorry but your right to believe in non-science does not trump American Children's right to be educated on facts, and not fiction. "
The more prominently this can be brought into the light, the better. I think the best debate we can have going into 2012 is "how racist are the Teab?"
Apparently that is double-secret reverse racism and you are evil for suggesting it. Narrative is a wonderful thing.
If I might backtrack a tiny bit, I didn't watch them babble, but did Rick Perry actually defend the Department of Education? Rick, "I stole a billion dollars of federal money from education to shore up budget problems due to my reckless spending and tax breaks to industry," Perry? The same man who laid off more teachers than I care to count?
I'd be more shocked except George W. "Planet-raper" Bush managed to sell himself as "Green" during the 2000 race.
Speaking of botching sentences, how about that Rick Perry everybody! I get what he was going for, but I've never seen him so very Bushy in all the years he's been my Governor. It was almost like looking back in time. Mitt "Nice Try" Romney came off looking the better of the two, for whatever that's worth. I believe it was Huntsman who quipped that "neither of them are going to be here very long because they'll bludgeon each other to death". The more this Perry/Romney feud goes on, the more I hope people will get sick of it and look to the 2nd-tier candidates.
The most surprising thing for me was that half of them actually answered the hypothetical about a running mate, when every time before they've played it safe. I suppose they're all scrapping to get into that top-bracket before they become irrelevant - the most obvious of which is Rick "The Dick" Santorum, who spent the entire evening looking like he was the one kid at the party that no one even invited. Ron Paul's answer sounded to me like, "You'll just have to vote for me more if you want me to answer the FUN questions."
Also, Gary Johnson was there apparently.
I'm not sure how I feel about all of this at the end of the day. These candidates are an interesting bunch to see grapple over the Number-1 Contender's spot, but I'm either frightened or disappointed by the idea of any of them actually running the country. I'm beginning to feel that it's best to just let Mr. Obama finish what he started if these are the alternatives.
He's coming home; for you've been such a liar.
I have to believe that eventually there will be a second party that holds some sane opinions. I'm not sure that belief will be vindicated, but I have to hold out the hope that one day, I might again have a choice instead of just blindly voting democrat and automatically making the best decision.
We're headed this way, honestly. Congress will cede all authority to the executive first though. Just today the President basically seized education policy and is making it by fiat because they won't get around to passing a re-authorization/reform of NCLB. So they'll reform it themselves. Wheeeeee!
God, I feel so dirty for wanting this. I mean I really don't want to give the president more power. I understand the danger of it. But when I watch an entire half of our Representatives doing their best to prevent recovery so that the other side will look bad I worry we may not make it long enough for that to be a problem.

Because 9% think it's too high, and shouldn't be cut! 9% of respondents could not fully
get their arms around the question. There should be another box you can check for, "I
have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."
