I went back on Netflix and re-watched the Walt/Gretchen interactions in S1E5 "Grey Matter" and S2E6 "Peekaboo" and she referenced some 4th of July weekend getaway that they were at and from the sound of it something happened during that time that caused the rift between Walt and Gretchen (possible flashback episode?). Walt also mentioned that she came from money and his contributions and ideas added to her "empire"

Nah, it was pretty clear he wanted to kill him. Mike is a professional, though. He knew that killing him wasn't the correct thing to do, although it was the right thing to do.
