All enemies get a 75% health bonus
All magic find, gold find, and +xp stats are averaged with your party
There is no background bonus to mf/gf experience gained for playing with a party.
Lovely. More reasons for people to take magic find gear over good gear. I loathe magic find.
Although, in fairness, the beta seemed pretty good at balancing it so the gear you primarily wanted would already have MF gear on it at higher levels. I just hope it stays that way. It was idiotic in D2 how you'd skip over excellent pieces of gear because they didn't have MF. One of the things I always hated most about that game.

Nor is there a penalty. As far as I know you get the same loot table with 4 players as you would by yourself(aside from MF/GF), but you're killing faster.

I really want my first playthrough of this game to be with friends, over a vent server. I just think it'd be awesome to do the whole story/gameplay experience for the first time with dudes I know. They're deadset on running it by themselves first though.

And balance wise I don't think you want to be in party games and not actively working with your party.
Yeah I tried that a couple times during the open beta. There was no way I was taking down even a medium sized bunch of monsters on my own.

Based on all this info I find playing with a full(organized) party to be the vastly preferred method of playing. Which it should be!
Did you play alien swarm? Because 4 man top down highly organized co-op is the shit.
Still haven't found a replacement for that game.
L4D's harder difficulties is also a good comparison.
