I just started that faith guy, and along the way to the Parish I killed that black knight in the tower

He dropped a Black Knight Greatsword, as though to tell me "make him a hulking strength character instead you dork"

This game needs some sort of boss rush mode or something, I have more fun with them than anything else in the game--so far O&S and Four Kings top that list

(especially four kings, so awesome... though now I think on it I couldn't really say why. Maybe it's the music)


Enjoying my Faith guy so far, though I have to say Sunlight Spear isn't as great as I'd expected--I mean yeah it's neat looking and powerful, but it casts. so. slowly. uugh. Hopefully once I get my Claymore or my Uchigatana more Divine-ified I'll see more power out of this guy.

Was thinking about changing to a dex build for a while there though, I kind of like faster weapons, at least as a change of pace from giant meaty ones

Whelp, finally did it. Got on Dark Souls, and beat the last two bosses and the final one all in one go.

Final fight was pretty intense though, like damn.

S&O or Lord Gwyn would be the hardest for sure.

from what I hear, gwyn apparently has a super huge parry window that makes him really easy if you just try to parry a lot

Hm, I didn't do parries. That fight was pretty damn awesome though, his sword would barely miss and sometimes I'd get my shield up right in time to block his long ass sword slashes.

Pretty damn intense fight.

Then I did the tut boss and killed it in 5 hits.

The final boss is fantastic because it's such a pure display of one on one combat

Pretty good example of how to take them on solo, even though the second half is cheap as heck. The first is good stuff.

Yeah, that's the best way to put it.

While I was playing it felt like I was watching some choreographed film with how fluid and smooth the entire felt.

It was pretty amazing.

I always ended up running away from the final boss and ranging him from behind a column or two, god that took forever.

For anyone still talking about the game here, just finished the game, I think My build had 50 strength and I used Havels with Havels shield + 5 and a Black Knight Greateaxe + 5, at 74 SL. I found Four Kings to be quite of a challenge (died 5 time in all, 4 times being the 3rd king because he was spawned so far away from the first two). Lord Gwyn was VERY easy as I just riposted him 4 times and he died. On NG+ I killed the asylum demon in one hit with an overhead attack. Beast build for playing the game, however for PVP I usually get destroyed by magic spells

It also drives home how similar Gwyn is at a fundamental level to the player. In many ways Dark Souls is like the husk of a world where the grand tale has already played out, and all the main characters became degenerate and detached

Like if you grabbed any number of JRPGs where the team of wondrous heroes (Gwyn, the Witches, Seath, the Black Knights, Nito etc.) has defeated the big bad (The Dragons/Darkness) and then fast forwarded a few millennia

I think the game definitely has strong themes of stagnation and decay, and the player is the force of change coming to either renew or destroy the world.

It's why everything and everywhere you go is decayed or ruined
Nowhere is still functioning as it should be
It's why Anor Londo works so well. You arrive and it's a spectacular contrast to the grime so far and you think "Oh, THIS is where Lordran still exists as a civilization" and then as you wander deeper you realize how desolate and horrifying it is
Miles and miles of empty corridors and deserted rooms

Gwyn felt really pitiful to me when I watched a friend slay him (Never got to fight him, data's gone now)
Flaming sword and imposing stature aside he's a hermit old man living in an ashen ruin and isolating himself from the world to avoid having to confront his own failure
Meanwhile his best friend has gone insane and locked himself up in a library
His daughter is under house arrest
And his men are wandering aimlessly across a dead land killing without direction

I have a hard time killing the non-aggressive NPCs in general

There's a fanmade online Covenant who hang around in the Painted World and divine whether the player they've invaded has killed Priscilla
If so they hunt and slaughter them

I would have left Priscilla be if there was any other way to get out of the painted world than through her. You can't teleport out from the bonfire, if you try it says the bonfire is "disconnected" from the rest.

she even tells you to do so if you talk to her

is a ending cinematic on par with the intro one. The abruptness of the ending leaves some closure to be desired.
