Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

How many beers do I need to drink in October to be prepared for NaNoWriMo next month?
All of them.
I'm planning on trying to nail down a story that I've had gestating inside my brain for the last ten years, but I've mainly got the ending, bits of the middle, and nothing else. I am aflutter with trepidation that I'm going to be running into walls almost from the starting line. What are peoples' personal recommendations for prepatory efforts for NaNoWriMo?
I had the same thing last year although only a few years as opposed to 10.
I think Quoth's probably got a link somewhere to the snowflake method which I think is a pretty great October resource. I don't have it on hand and I am too lazy to google. Really great for nailing things down.

That link is on my site and I'll try to find and post it here as well. I also have the link to Patricia C. Wrede's world-building guide on my site. And possibly name generators. It's just hard to do this stuff from my phone. But I'll persevere!

Have already started two plot prep challenges for this year's return to the giant mess that is my deep future space opera universe. Getting some really good stuff (for me, anyway) from the prompts and have been writing a thousand words a day for a few weeks now. Now I just hope my notes will propel me through another hundred thousand words again this year.

I need to either writer like 80k+ before the end of this month, or just commit myself to 'cheating' and continuing what I'm working on through November, aiming for 50k of THAT.
3k words/day until WriMo, at which point I will have to take on the heavy burden of...1.6k words/day. Derrrrp. Guess I should get to it.

you should write the one about the girl that couldn't take a kitten and then they died cold and alone on the streets!

I think I may write a fun pseudo-horror urban fantasy monster romp with a character I've already used before. Something kind of Dresden Files-y mixed with, I don't know... Resident Evil?

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

For reals though I'm considering some kind of old gods political thriller. Medieval court drama starring some seriously Lovecraftian abominations. Could be fun to just cut loose with the world building.

Will it star Claire, the Master of Unlocking?
I think for Nano I will finish the second draft of what I started doing a first draft on last year. Yes, that's cheating and missing the point and whatever, shut up, stop judging meeeeee.

Mine will feature Giselle, the sassy young psychic recruited by the gubbmint to help find monsters. She's sassy! And psychic! How can this go wrong?!

I am projecting the sequel to Last Voyage will be around 125k in the draft, probably diced down to a third of that by the time I am done. I base this projection on last year's go round but might be optimistic about how much I can accomplish. I might have enough for one good novel by the time I am done
I am playing around with the idea of writing a fun, pulpy fantasy adventure book using a couple of characters from short stories I've written over the past year or so.
That's assuming I'm not working on Lorelei's Daughter still come November.
I'm going to once again try to write a fantasy type novel. This year I might have some rough sketch of what the plot is so I don't fuck everything up right away.
Once again I can't wait for this. The best thing is my brother is probably going to do it with me, as I told him about last year and he seemed pretty interested and we are both getting pretty excited. Personally I'll be working on a sequel to what I wrote last year, no idea what my brother is going to write.
tapeslinger the Merryweather story is awesome, do it
Last Voyage of the Merrywench you mean? The first draft is mostly done... the inner third or so is still gutted but I think I will be working on that as my nano-comedown in December so that I still have something that I need to WRITE come December 1st. That was a big problem last year, once the drive wasn't there it sort of faltered and I need to be motivated.
and yeah, I basically have to keep writing it til I run out of story because otherwise it will be the death of me so this year is the "swear I wasn't gonna write a sequel to this" sequel to Last Voyage.
I really ought to post some of it here, the last revisions on the prequel stories have done really well over on wdc... which means they probably still really need an overhaul
i'm doing this this year. i think i'm finally going to finish, too - i have a writing buddy that i found at school, and i have less class this semester (heh) so i can probably win without too much undue stress.
gonna be about serial killers, and homo sacer, and the occult, and the suicide kings

YESSSS! I liked her so much. With the third eye and whatnot, right?
Yup. Gonna do it. Gonna novel her good.
Do you think you can do Heracles without the labors?

Novels about me are always the way to go. Good choice.

I don't know what to write for nano, maybe it will be about a guy with supreme bossing Quoth powers.
Lots?

I've been tossing around translating the life of Nobunaga Oda into a sci-fi setting. Hasn't gotten me anywhere, though. "The wise slip-thief makes sure he knows what dimension the other side of the door is in before listening at the keyhole."
I'm judging you so much right now.

This Nano, I complete the trilogy. The Battle of All Heroes, estimated at 150,000 words. But then I extimated the last would be 120,000 words.
