I don't know why, but I don't like the look of that new Pixar movie. There, I said it.

Its because of all the damn gingers. Gingers are only good for fetish porn and punching bags.

There actually isn't that much ginger porn out there

    not that I've looked
    Spoiler:

I really like all of Pixar's stuff so I expect Brave to be great. Neither of the cars movies appeal to me but I'm not a red stater and I consider Nascar to be retarded so it's probably not for me

Cars was definitely some of the weaker Pixar entries.

Pixar should just make a movie of Toy Story shorts, throw in some Incredibles newsreels, it'll make billions.

I have to admit: I did not much enjoy the Toy Story movies. Pretty much everything else they've made (except cars and I guess a bug's life) is a lot better than any of the Toy Story films.

I swear, every single time a Pixar movie is about to come out, whether it's Ratatouille or Up or Wall-E or whatever, there are always people saying "I like Pixar, but this doesn't look too hot"

    and they are always wrong

I have been those people for every one of those movies.

"How are they going to make people like a robot?! Come on, Pixar, it'll never work."

The problem with the Brave trailer is that it doesn't seem to get me excited about the film. Not really showing anything to make me want to see unfold.

  • nightmarennynightmarenny Registered User regular
    Yeah, its a bad trailer.

The movie will probably be great though. This is Pixar's first movie with a Female main character which is probably why they are sticking closer to the book on this one. Probably focusing on characterization and getting everything just right.

A lot of Pixar's good movies have garbage trailers, it never really worries me. Although it feels awfully How to Train Your Dragon-ish, usually Pixar movies are a lot more inventive in their settings.

  • DoodmannDoodmann Registered User regular
My only beef with Brave is that How to Train your Dragon had a similar setting and look and came out fairly recently. I know the plot is somewhat different but the setting and style are obvious. Dreamworks is supposed to steal shit from Pixar, not the other way around.

*edit* damn, should have read Kana's post first.

    Brave takes place in Scotland.

Its not Pixars fault Dreamworks doesn't know what Viking sound like.

  • shrykeshryke Registered User regular
Brave just seems so generic, which Pixar has usually avoided.

  • nightmarennynightmarenny Registered User regular
That's partially intentional. They felt they were entering enough unexplored territory with this one and wanted the plot to be fairly by the numbers so they could focus.

  • nightmarennynightmarenny Registered User regular
Heck while they normally have unusual setting the plot is normally pretty standard.

"Sophisticated city-person moves to the country and learns a lesson about not judging people"

"Middle-aged Dad of three relives his youth in a mid-life crisis and risks destroying his marriage with an affair"

"Socially-inept shut in falls in love with an attractive member of the opposite sex and tries to earn her love"

"When his country is attacked by a more powerful nation a young man recruits a group of warriors to assist them"

Things that are a first for Pixar...

    1. A female primary Protagonist. I'm not sure this is such a big deal but they mention it a lot.

    2. A fairy-tale

    3. A more "mature" and "serious" movie.

Anyway the brave trailer had me interested for the first minute, but then the second half of it is kind of directionless. It seems to imply that there's something more complicated going on than the 'young woman in a man's world' storyline, but doesn't really give you a hint of what that is.

The problem with the Brave trailer is that it doesn't seem to get me excited about the film. Not really showing anything to make me want to see unfold.

This is my deal about it. Plus it's another movie about a princess who in her heart is a (traditional male role) and so will become the best there ever was at it.

I mean, you can make an arc out of that, but it's been done to death, man. I suppose I should trust Pixar will do it the best it's ever been done, but...I need something more to that premise, and not just it getting dressed up in skuttesh drog und feyting bars roond the stonding stowens and, oh yes. Red hair. I mean, reyd harr. Right now it just feels like they've created some kind of bizarre syrup that some people are turning into hummingbirds over, and no one is looking to see if they've got anything else going on in this movie, they're just good with the syrup.

Oh, and I keep forgetting A Bug's Life was Pixar. But then again, I saw Antz instead that year.

I don't get the Bugs Life hate. I enjoyed that movie a lot. Not as much as their other movies, to be sure, but it wasn't terrible. It was still way better then anything Cars related.

I didn't hate it. It's just that Antz looked stronger, visually, to me. And I associate Pixar with strong visual designs. It just comes down to that.

I vaguely remember liking bugs life and thinking antz was a cheap cash in on it's success. I actually don't remember anything about antz though, while I remember everything about a bugs life. I don't know how anyone can hate that movie.

Pixar needs to just start making a 'for kids' trailer, and then a 'for adults' trailer. They never really want to admit that their movies are really good in the trailer, because it might scare away the ADD kids, so they just toss in the 3-4 silliest jokes into the trailer and call it good.

Speaking of fun animated movies, Rango was a riot, especially as a lover of Chinatown and westerns. I don't think kids would've understood even half the jokes in that movie.
