Stranger Than Fiction is pretty much my favorite movie in the world ever so I guess I'll consider watching that one.

    I like the genre.

Younger Stranger Than Fiction. Which I'm perfectly okay with.

So, what I gather is that it's a movie about people in a limo. Because that was really the only consistent thing I got from it. No hints of what the plot it, the setting, conflicts, or most importantly, why I should care.

    Bad trailer.

The book is about a guy in a limo.

Ruby Sparks looks pretty bland to me - it doesn't seem that interested in really thinking through and exploring its premise. But we'll see. I looked it up and it's not written by the same person that wrote Little Miss Sunshine.

Actually the guy who won an oscar for writing LMS - Michael Arndt - has only written one other move. He has the sole screenwriting credit on Toy Story 3 (!)

And right now Arndt's rewriting the script for a Phineas and Ferb movie. Huh.

    That Ruby Sparks trailer;
When I just glanced at it for a second, I honestly thought the preview image was Emma Thompson in Stranger Than Fiction.

Actually watching the trailer, it looks pretty bland considering the premise. It really has that faux-indie vibe to it, which isn't something I'm a fan of.

Same here. They seem to be getting back to the "fantastic" elements of the original toy commercial.

No one can tell me those colorful ninja segments of the trailers didn't scream "HEY! NINJA FORCE!"

All the vehicle/costume designs also seem to to be throwbacks as well, gives it a much more nostalgia/GI Joe vibe than the first.

Tatum probably still survives. They even gave him a poster. However, it looks like Johnson will be the star in this one which is an improvement.

It is. Though I did gain some respect for Tatum after watching 21 Jumpstreet, he could be good if given the right role. Him in the first GI Joe movie however was terrible.

Also surgical removal of any trace Wayans elements is almost always a good thing.
No "red heads" in needlessly close fitting body armor though.

I never totally buy Jonathan Pryce in anything for some reason. That's a bullshit complaint in a movie that I would never go to see for the 'powerful character acting', but he bugs me. So there.

    better version but quicktime: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/weinstein/lawless/

It's Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, and Gary Oldman in a rural (practically western) prohibition crime movie. For all that awesome I can put up with some LeBeouf.

I can't find it, but I saw an interview with (the writers? Maybe the director, can't remember) of Retaliation - who are, it should be noted, not the same team that did the first one - and they thought the first one was pretty bad, too. They seemed to enjoy the franchise and want to do it justice.

I wish I could find that interview, it did more to sell me on the film than the trailers did.

Now, don't get me wrong, there's no way it won't be dumb action, but I have some faith that it will be the level of dumb action I would expect from the franchise.

Eh, I don't blame him for Indy4. That was all on Spielberg and Lucas.

Lebeouf is just mediocre, like you said. Based on talent he doesn't belong beside Hardy, Oldman, and Pearce, but movies he's in make a lot of money for whatever reason. Actingwise, he's just a somewhat disappointing placeholder that could have been filled by better actors.

  • Centipede DamascusCentipede Damascus The machine is broken. The universe is broken.Registered User regular
I don't think he's necessarily a bad actor, but he definitely comes off like kind of a jackass in interviews, especially that one time he bragged about having sex with Megan Fox.

  • KruiteKruite Registered User regular
What interview was that? I'm intrigued to see just how cocky he is.

I think Labeouf has the potential to be a better actor, he just isn't trying and not challenging himself (directors letting him and/or telling him to do that nervous ranting schtick doesn't help either). Right now he's kinda riding out the gravy train.

  • Centipede DamascusCentipede Damascus The machine is broken. The universe is broken.Registered User regular
    http://www.details.com/celebrities-entertainment/cover-stars/201108/shia-labeouf-actor-transformers-indiana-jones-wall-street
"Look, you're on the set for six months, with someone who's rooting to be attracted to you, and you're rooting to be attracted to them," he explains. "I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen." When I inquire about Fox's status at the time with her longtime boyfriend, Brian Austin Green, LaBeouf replies, "I don't know, man. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. . . ."—repeating the phrase exactly 12 times with various intonations, as if trying to get it just right. Finally, he says, "It was what it was."

and then you've got this gem
He says he's done with the action genre. Not only did he walk away while in talks for The Bourne Legacy and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, he says he lost interest during negotiations to appear in Oscar bait like 127 Hours and The Social Network. While they were all fine movies, he says, "I'm looking for Warren Beatty—type game changers."

yeah, dude. you are exactly like Warren Beatty.

You guys should watch the red letter media review of crystal skull. That guy just has a better way of putting words together then I do. He's surprisingly supportive of Labeouf, and I have to agree besides the tarzan monkey greaser bullshit near the end which is the stories fault, he did a very good job in the movie.

I think the fault is the parts he's being put in like Kruite said. Why does he have to play that character and then say "no,no,no" a billion times in the transformers and that rip off of rear window?

    steam_sig.png
  • DiannaoChongDiannaoChong Registered User regular
I would not be surprised if Tatum's character also survives but pops up near the end as a surprise or something.

I think this might be it. But from that trailer it doesn't make sense unless hes dead or the above, he doesn't make it into the well, hes not around in any of the "Group" scenes, hes not in any action scenes. I would say maybe wounded and they find him afterwards and send him home, but they show them walking through the desert by themselves too. It's aggravating because the trailer sets him up with "yes duke is back" and they give him that "bonding cliche moment" that isnt "character about to die cliche moment". and I doubt they would kill duke. Also I mean, come on, if they were going to kill duke like that, they most certainly would kill Wayans like that and he isnt around.

edit: I hate imdb, it says that favorite joe:
    Spoiler:
is in the movie. While that would be awesome I kind of doubt it. I think I did hear that a certain rapper
    Spoiler:
would be in it, but like I said, imdb really sucks.
