Cleared the catacombs and snagged the Gravelord sword; I went ahead and upgraded it since I had the demon titanite and don't figure to use any other boss souls weapon and I think my BKS has its first real competition. The Gravelord sword is faster and does almost as much damage; I didn't see any evidence of the toxic buildup, though.
Pinwheel died first attempt, but that was a good fight. Hectic as fuck with all those clones, and I spent most of the fight with only a tiny sliver of health.
I don't understand why you guys have problems with those archers. I've only died there once and that was because I ran off the bridge myself. It's fairly easy to time your run so you don't get hit until you reach the cathedral. Then you only have to deal with the archer on the right and a good shield can block his arrows without kicking you off.
In other news, I got the Moonlight Greatsword off of Seath. I've pumped Int, so it's pretty nice!

The gravelord sword is actually quite a bit of fun. It's rare that you'll actually poison anything with it, but the times that it works are pretty nice.

So ive been invaded about 10 times in a row by different people, but they all had the same small knife, all to power backstab, as if it has some sort of crazy lag backstab range or something.
What weapon is that and how do i counter it? And how do i get the Darkmoon Covenant to not suck?

I was having a blast last night playing Forest Covenant.
People don't quite understand that my +3 Astora's Sword can usually pierce their shield from a good distance away. Well, that and that if they take a hit from my Black Knight Greatsword they will go flying. Changing up weapons mid fight really seems to befuddle people.
Got to Quelaag again, and her one-hit kill annoys me. I just have to watch out for it is all, but it is still annoying.

Quick question, why would you not use a +5 or +10 Divine longsword over the Astora's Sword? I have that upgraded to +5 and it's terrible compared to my +10 Divine longsword.
Also, I don't think Queelag has anything that's specifically a one hit kill. If you get caught in the lava it'll hurt like hell but I don't thinks it's an instant death attack.
I've also decided that the valley at the bottom of the catacombs can go fuck itself. Those bone wheels agro from miles away.

If you take the shortcut to the Paladin Leeroy summon point you'll only have to fight two of those skeletons

Quelaag has a Wrath of God style spell that she rarely uses that deals a lot of damage that could easily one hit kill some players. It has a long build up so it's easy to avoid though.
And yeah, if you take more than 1-2 ticks in the lava, you're probably dead.
EDIT: This is the attack I'm talking about. From the wiki:
Side stomp. Long buildup. The spider raises its legs on one side of the body, and then stomps them all down on one side of Quelaag's body for high damage. Even if not hit by the stomp itself, small shockwaves erupt from the impact points, doing fire damage and making it hard to punish the attack if it misses. Telegraphed by the spider leaning back on its hind legs for a while.

Because I haven't gotten to upgrade one yet :P
Speaking of upgrading, I have acquired the first two embers (the one from the depths and the one after moonlight butterfly) what would be a good upgrade path, aside from the aforementioned Divine Longsword.

Divine weapons are pretty eh if you're not making a faith build
Though you should have one handy for your first time through the catacombs for the skeletons
Whereabouts should a person be at lv49? I just finished up the Depths, and I got a feeling I might be overleveled. I saw a few summon signs in it, but then shortly afterwards I hit a 90k jackpot in a forest invasion which jumped my level up 5 points. After finding the dragon to be really easy, I thought I'd leave my calling card out there to help anybody else, but after doing some humanity and titanite grinding, I haven't gotten a single hit. And I was kinda looking forward to some jolly co-operation.

Divine weapons are alright now, at least the +10 ones are. But just looking at the character sheet my +5 Lightning longsword and +10 Fire longsword both just beat it (by 10 damage or so). That's at 50 Faith, 24 Str, and 18 Dex. That's not including the 110 bonus to evil enemies.
I wouldn't even recommend longswords unless you like the move set. I happen to and like it on my knight character.
I've also decided that the valley at the bottom of the catacombs can go fuck itself. Those bone wheels agro from miles away.
I've never gone down into the catacombs without the Silver Knight Spear. It's divine and just block-poking with a spear makes that entire area a joke. When you get down into that area, go real slow. If one of them starts to walk toward you, back off a bit, he will come. Then you just block and poke.
sure, there's a lot of stupid annoying bullshit...
but that just means it's an even better feeling when you take on the stupid annoying bullshit and come out on top, 1v3.
It's fucking awesome to win against long odds.
This guy gets it. I lose 95% of my PvP battles for all of the reasons mentioned above, but when I do get that one victory it feels amazing cause I know that I overcame impossible odds. The fact the Dark Souls PvP is just as unfair and punishing as the PvE is inspiring to me.

Yeah, you're quite high for that area. 49 is easily enough to be to be at the end of Anor Londo.

@The Wolfman - yeah you can handle Anor easily by that point.
@DoctorArch - not sure if you have killed pinwheel yet, if not and you are planning on doing faith build, then you might want to run down, kill pinwheel and make a run for the large divine ember, white chunks and white slab. If you pick up all the white chunks there and the 1 from the tree connected to blighttown, you will only have to farm 2-3 from the very easy skele towers to fully upgrade to +10 divine.
Getting a fire claymore is handy too. The claymore is great, low requirements, has the R2 thrusting attack 1h with shield and nice 2h swing animations.
Another option is go to painted world and get the occult ember (dark ember). You'll still need white chunks and slab to upgrade it but it gives a much better return from faith, can't permantly kill the small skeletons or wagon wheel skels though, so you may want to keep your Astoras around for that.
you need, like, 50 faith for occult to be better than divine +6-10

True, depends on how heavy you invest in faith. Up til 50 though Occult is only slightly behind, so you shouldn't feel bad if you went that way instead. Slightly being 1-5 damage a swing.
Oh and without getting too spoilery about Painted world.. for those thinking about it, do yourself a favor and take a bunch of toxic curing shit with you. And if you want to make it that much easier, have the ability to kindle past 10 , though that could be said for most places in the game haha.

I had no idea that was naturally divine, is the silver knight sword the same way? Anyway, my divine bastard sword +5 wrecked the little skeletons well enough. Scariest part in the catacombs was falling into the black knight's freaking lap, actually. Although I sure as hell will just book it past the bones wheels from now on, ugh.
Ok, the game designers and the players are complete and utter dicks.
Blightown. Second bonfire. As I'm walking up this ramp behind it, there are all these messages on the ground.
"Amazing treasure ahead"
"Liar"
"Imminent danger"
"Beware of Amazing treasure"
At the top is a chest in the middle of what is clearly an arena shaped area. There are also 3 or 4 messages in there, around the chest.
I stood there for 10 minutes. I was like Indiana Jones, just eyeballing that thing. Because I may be many things, but born yesterday ain't one of them. Finally decide to suck it up, and run over and open the thing with my eyes closed.
A dragon scale. Nothing more, nothing happens.

well, I got the sword, but I'm still up for co-op (either one of us can host)
getting to the part I'm at is gonna take a while, though
if you've placed the lordvessel at the altar, start by warping to the Anor Londo bonfire
then, from the bonfire room's exit, turn left into the hall with two giants in it, then take a right onto the balcony with another giant in it
kill that giant, then progress up the path (it's the forested mountain road) into another long hall. this one has two boars in it, they can be touch if you try to block their charge
get past them and you'll find yourself in the beginning of the archives. from there to seath's area, it gets kind of complicated
God damn, I think O&S are actually going to be worse in NG+. When I saw the tiny little sliver of health that a full stamina draining combo from my+5 Quelaag sword did to Smough, I think I died a little inside. And Smough's weak to fire, so don't even get me started on Super Ornstein.

Bring on your next challenge, From Software.
And while you make that game, make an identical game with a less byzantine form of multiplayer and release that instead.
You counter by backstabbing first.
I need to go home and join some covenants.
