Generally how bad has transportation been down near the convention center in the past. We're wondring if staying at a cheaper hotel further out and taking the T/taxis would be a valid choice or if it would just be miserable due to the amount of people at PAX.

Transportation is pretty good, the T runs until Midnight, we have shuttles running, and worse comes to worse you can grab a taxi.

    Hi Guys,

I am a Jewish attendee who will be observing passover I was wondering if there is anyway that I could bring a kosher packed lunch to store at bag check or if you know of any kosher restaurants that are near the convention center. I know that convention centers are often pretty strict about bringing food into the convention center but I figured it would be a good idea to check with you guys before I do this. I thank you for you promptness and hope that you can answer my question to the best of your ability.

Looking forward to the con and thanks once again,

Bag check? There isn't a bag check (unless you mean coat check) and I never saw anyone have their bag checked for food, doesn't seem like they care. So long as your lunch isn't going to spoil, just keep it in your bag and then nom at your leisure . :-)

I've never seen anybody have a problem bringing personal food into the BCEC. It's when people try to sell food that problems arise.

The coat check also checked bags last year.

So this year I may have the opportunity to attend as media. I've never done this before so I was curious if anyone who has in the past could fill me in.

How much does the media pass traditionally cost and how long before they allow people to register as media? I am concerned because if I can't get a media pass I may miss the opportunity to do a regular registration. If I register now can I cancel it when media opens?

    Thanks!

  • BigRedBigRed Seattle, WARegistered User regular
Media takes an approval process which is becoming more and more stringent.

Id suggest you buy a regular pass in case you are not approved for a media pass.

As Red and Moe said, buy a regular pass. If you get your "Yellow Badge," great. You can put in for a refund, but even better, you can sell it to some needy person on the forums (at face value). There will be a demand for it, I guarantee it. If you get a refund, especially after they sell out, your refund won't result in another 3-day pass sale, so 1 less person will be able to experience PAX.

actually dya that's no longer correct.

There is no pass selling / buying on the forum anymore.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING BUYING PASSES FROM SECONDARY SOURCES

I just bought a pass on craigslist / ebay, how do I know if it's legit?

This really won't apply until after PAX East passes sell out, but I wanted to put this out there anyways. If you purchase your pass from a second hand source, you are putting yourself at risk of purchasing a counterfeit pass. Second hand sources also include this forum, which is why there will no longer any pass selling or buying here.

Please be aware that there may/will be repercussions for attempting to sell or buy badges on the forums.

Please remember, buying a pass from anybody except Penny-Arcade means you are potentially buying a counterfeit pass which can be confiscated and you will be asked to leave the show.

I think the FAQ addition here would be:
I bought a badge, but am now (attending as an Enforcer/attending as Media/unable to attend). What now?

(I'm guessing the answer is "email pax_questions@paxsite.com".)

That's something that would be better dealt with via Enforcer channels. However, as has been stated many times, if you are accepted as an enforcer you WILL be able to refund your badge.

however for the other two you are correct.

This will be my second year attending PAX and I may qualify for a media pass.

I was just curious if anyone knows how much of a discount they are or have been in the past and what the qualifications have been?

Thanks guys! Sorry if this is a newb question!

I have gone to the PAX East each and every single year since its inception, but being a person with limited real-world social contacts who are also gamers, I always go to the PAX alone. Sure, I chat with strangers a lot, but I wish I could go as part of a group. Is anyone planning on doing some sort of social group meetups during the PAX?

I really want to go to PAX East so I'm going to buy my tickets (2) now. The only problem is, my wife's parents may be coming into town around the same time so I may not be able to go BUT they might also not come at all so... My question is, if I buy 2 tickets now and end up not being able to go, can I sell my tickets at a later date?

    Thanks in advance,

    nando

I didn't see this elsewhere on the forum, so I figure I'll ask here: Does the BCEC have a bike rack? I'm seriously considering bringing a folding bike in my luggage for the express purpose of tootling around Boston at great speed. Also, does anyone know Boston's policies towards hitching on lampposts, signs, etc.?

On an unrelated note, Google Chrome recognizes "tootling" as a word, but not BCEC.

I don't know if they have a bike rack or not, but there were definitely bikes stored at the bag check last year. Not an official answer, and I am not sure if they were supposed to sell a ticket for a bike, but they were there. I only remember because it sparked an ongoing conversation in my group about bikes in Boston and whole lot of other nonsense...

Sounds like a great thing to call the BCEC about. I believe they have contact info on their website.

Why can I only buy up to five badges? I have a group of seven, do we need to split into two groups? or once I register the first five can I register the last two?

  • Moe FwackyMoe Fwacky Super Moderator, Moderator mod
I believe the 5-per-transaction limit is a method to dissuade scalpers, who, if given the chance, would buy their passes by the hundreds.

Just shooting this question out there. I read somewhere that Khoo has x'ed anyone getting married at PAX itself, is this true?

  • Moe FwackyMoe Fwacky Super Moderator, Moderator mod
This is true. IIRC, PAX has so much going on that there is no way to guarantee a wedding will go off without a hitch, and because weddings are such important events to the people involved, he doesn't want to risk something going wrong.

Ah, here is the quote from Robert

    http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/comment/5067821#Comment_5067821
Before anyone gets too worked up on the concept, I've had a few people email me in the past couple of months to do a wedding @ PAX. Now, trust me, I'm totally blown away at the idea of people wanting to tie in something as special as their WEDDING to the show, but we've been weighing our options and realize it's probably not the best idea.

Ultimately, if something is at PAX, that means someone like myself would have to be pretty involved, since it's part of our show, but A, we wouldn't be able to dedicate a lot of time to it given everything else that's going on and B, man would we feel bad if we screwed it up in any way. There's just so much that goes into planning a wedding, and to be 100% perfectly honest with everyone, a wedding at the show would be pretty low priority as far as our resources go.

You, of course, are MORE than welcome to try looking at venues around town during PAX, but having it ACTUALLY AT the show would probably just be too challenging.
