The Peanuts comparison doesn't work because Schulz drew a comic that touched on a variety of elements of life and thought. Charlie Brown not getting to kick the football wasn't the premise of the comic; it was a gag, albeit a symbolic one - Schulz believed that life was always going to disappoint you, and CB was his way of demonstrating that. It was an elegant and bittersweet way of conveying Schulz own philosophy.

MA3 is not Peanuts. MA3 lacks class. It lacks elegance. It lacks charm. To whomever said that we readers, and I add, those readers who want to see character development and who are foolish enough to root for Gary, are the actual butt monkeys in the eyes of the author, I tell you absolutely agree.

MA3 comic puts on airs. It makes social statements from the author's viewpoint, but then hides behind the "it's just a sex comedy" defense when challenged by angry readers. I would compare it to Hustler, but I actually have greater respect for Larry Flynt as a publisher than I have for MA3, because at least he makes a stand and sticks by them, rather than throwing up his hands and saying, "but I'm just a pornographer."

In all truth, MA3 is nothing but potential. It has no identity or voice because the writing is too weak to handle anything more than what we have seen. It's too afraid of being labeled as "pornography" to be a good sex romp. It's too preachy to be a good farce. It's too shallow to be a romantic comedy. Its characters are too unidimensional to be a character-based comedy. It's too repetitive and gag-focused to be plot driven. In the end, it's the webcomic equivalent of a late-night Cinemax softcore porn, one that's occasionally funny, but worst of all, one that has gone on far too long without a satisfying payoff.
