Not always frivolous. One of their engineers did an interesting white paper on hard drive performance and failure rate. It showed the gap between SATA and SCSI to be tiny in terms of MTBF. And it really debunked the whole "Drive manufacturer x" has a higher failure rate myths.

Yeah. The whole reason the system works is because if you give awesome people time to do things, they end up doing awesome things.
I think this actually is one of their best ideas. Probably leads to all sorts of tiny and awesome breakthroughs that helps the company in the long run.

Take some sausages, put them on a baking tray. Put some frozen chips around them. Put them in the oven for about 20 minutes. Add salt and vinegar and any sauce you like.
