Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

The Good Guys are evil and deserve to be firebombed

Bendery: we don't have Best Buy here but I know of this Geek Squad
what exactly is your job? are you just there to hook up consoles and entertainment centres and provide advice, or?
We used to have "The Good Guys" in 'The States', we already firebombed em.
I am a full time-student and part-time deli guy.
I enjoy the work, but it's hard to stay positive when I was meant to be landing in Perth right now but haven't even left site yet
Secret Satan's Wishlist!
Also I've never actually gone into The Good Guys, come to think of it.
Tef: what sort of training do you do? is it more physical or part of the business side?
I work in the store, fixing peoples shit (little known fact, geek squads first advertisement was "We fix your shit" this was before geeksquad was bought by Bestbuy). I'm what is known as an "Advanced Repair Agent" or someone who works on computers every day, from hardware replacement to virus removal and data back-up. It's kind of sisyphean in nature, I repair the same virus between 50-100 times a week and then a new virus comes out and I repair that one in a similar but more annoying way.
how much of virus repair is reformatting hard drives
Ive bought 2 TVs from them
Got a good price both times
For me? Maybe 1/100, for my coworkers who can't read crash dumps and dont make registry backups before they delete shit? 1/10
can't change your background? let's format
out of curiosity if you pay cash how much do they actually take off
Arang: at my job some of the repairers we assign are for computers, and we have to inform every single customer that their data might be wiped and they need to back up, no matter what the actual PC issue is
I'm sort of wondering if the repairer we use sees that the problem is a couple of loose keys, fixes it and then formats the hard-drive out of spite
I absolutely hate people like that, you can't call yourself a "computer repair person/technician/artist" if all you do is put everything back to square 1. It's like when you car breaks down deciding it needs a new engine.
if I'm back here later tonight I will continue to engage in discourses, otherwise I'm excited to see what topics you guys will have stumbled on when I wake up
Chico, you're in charge
I think he's actually there to manage the networks and keep students from abusing it for torrents and stuff and the repair part was mainly just tacked on and now 3 people are in charge of like 1600 constantly-breaking computers
BEHOLD, MY WORKSTATION BACKGROUND
My manager gives me crap for the ponies, but my fellow geeks approve. (there are some hidden eastereggs in our toolset about ponies)
they straight up give you 5% no questions
But they're actually happy to let you haggle if you want
I suppose if thats the case then yeah, format the shit out of it. I guess I read it as "this guy fixes peoples computers" as in, students bring a guy a computer and $50 for a repair and he just reformats it.
whenever people complain I open it up, do custom color and change it by a few shades toward black or white
or is it
e: ... it's so evil it ate the actual post of the double post pair
what I was saying is that he has to fix them basically overnight which kind of limits his options in actually fixing anything
where do i sign
If my gym offered this service I would be 100 pounds lighter
Are you studying yaya?

Oh wow, I've heard that story. That is basically my moms job except with her its one person for like, 800 computers or some ridiculous number now. Apparently its cool to continue cutting the tech department while maintaining the amount you spend on the tech you need them to run. Which is absurd considering how much physical labor is involved because that includes setting up the machines and basically anything involving computers at all. A few years back I took a few days off to go in with her because she had something like 3 days to pallet up something like 400 CRT monitors spread all over the building.
