Jade Lamp: The Animated Series!

So the Green Lantern: Animated Series premiered last night as a sneak peak into the series. The show is slated for the Spring 2011 but from what I viewed last night I think they will do a fairly good job with it. It is a Bruce Timm produced show and as opposed to Star Wars: Clone Wars it actually pulls off the CG pretty well.



A brief synopsis of the show:

The series focuses on the adventures of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and his fellow warrior ally, Kilowog in their battle against the series' main antagonists, the Red Lanterns, led by the villain Atrocitus, and the Manhunters. Atrocitus, seeking revenge on The Guardians of the Universe for destroying his home planet, leads the Red Lanterns on a quest of vengeance against the worlds and Green Lanterns of "Frontier Space". Carol Ferris, Salaak, The Guardians of the Universe, Saint Walker, Zilius Zox and an anti-hero Razer serve as supporting characters in the series.

So they are having the Red Lanterns be the villains and the producers have said they will be avoiding using Sinestro at all. Here is a six minute preview of the show!

really? you think this CGI is better than what Clone Wars has become?

yeah, it's nice in design and they did some good simple stuff with landscapes in that preview, but at 1:21 he looks like fucking Blasto

It was pretty interesting and I really like that they don't shy away from characters being killed.

The writing looks good, but the CGI makes for some very bland landscapes. Just feels so sterile.

I like the aesthetics of Green Lantern a lot better than Clone Wars (I really hate their work regarding character's faces). I also think that Green Lantern caters itself towards CGI better because of the source material.

The most offensive thing about Clone Wars is that they basically just copied the character design from Tartakovsky's version and just made them three dimensional. I mean yeah, it's all pretty much just caricatures of actual actors, but there is a pretty distinctive style to the drawn toon and the CG toon pretty much just lifts it. If you're gonna spit on the excellent work Tartakovsky did for Clone Wars and make something else to replace it, at least have the decency to come up with your own character models.

I love the green lantern but the animation style here is a little off-putting.

Also... sinestro started out as a villain and then they gave him a backstory where he was originally good right? Because why the fuck would his parents name him Sinestro.

I don't really think I can endorse anything with Hal Jordan as a main character, because, man, fuck Hal Jordan, he's a terminally boring, douchy shitbag.

Except in New Frontier. It's amazing how much a personality can improve a character.

The reason being that southpaws did not fit into the legion shield-wall. For the tactic to work, everyone needs to use the weapon and shield in the same hands. Left-handed people would have to be in their own unit.

Similarly, southpaws are a bitch to box because they are so rare but are familiar with hitting right handed peeps.

he was intended to be Kyle Rayner but was swapped out at the last minute because they wanted it to line up with the movie

which explains why Josh Keaton is voicing him and he is a lot more smarmy than Jordan ever is

He's acting pretty Hal Jordan-y in that preview. He's got the womanizing, two-fisted arrogant Jordan swagger there. There's really nothing Kyle about him at all.

As far as I can tell in the preview, anyway. I really can't stomach it enough to watch through the whole thing.

plus, Kyle is really a womanizer too, to a degree. Dude has shacked up with as many ladies as Nightwing.

For starters, that's not even close to true. Nightwing has slept with roughly half the population of earth.

And while Kyle has had his share of girlfriends, it's not because of any womanizing on his part. It's more due to his girlfriends getting murdered or leaving him, so he ends up single a lot.

Like I get that they want to showcase other villains but they can do that and still have Sinestro as well.

I was kind of shocked they went all mass murder this early in the show, but that is actually necessary when you consider Atrocious' origins, Zix on the other hand....and is Hal Jordan the one who had a really, REALLY bad day in an alternate timeline that had to be repaired by Kyle Raynor?

I was gonna come in here and say "At least they didn't use Kyle Raynor" because I've only heard people talk shit about him and have heard one or two good things about Hal now and then.


But really they should just use Guy or John always forever.
