[Sandusky Sex Abuse] 60mil fine for Penn St, 4 year post season ban
Posts
Apparently the judge had to reprimand the viewers in the gallery. After Sandusky waived his hearing, the courtroom erupted into derisive laughter and snarking.
Actually, there would be. If you know the case is solid against you, antagonizing the court by insisting on a trial would just make things worse for you at sentencing.
And I don't buy that ending plea bargaining would grind the courts to a halt.
Do you know what the backlog for an average court is right now?
Because 9% think it's too high, and shouldn't be cut! 9% of respondents could not fully
get their arms around the question. There should be another box you can check for, "I
have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."
Sandusky lawyer Joe Amendola: "If you believe [these accusations], you need to call 1-800-REALITY."
Which is a gay sex hotline. For real.
Also, choice bits from the post-fake-hearing news junket:
- Sandusky: "This is the fight of my life, bigger than any game I've coached. I'm in this for all four quarters."
- Lawyer Joe: These kids just want some of that fat Penn State settlement cash; "What greater motivation, folks, could there be than the financial motivation of saying, 'I'm a victim.'"
And then Lawyer Joe went on to make a joke about Sandusky's slow manner of speaking, marked by frequent pauses, as being on purpose because NBC was paying them by the second for the interview.
At this point, I'm fairly sure Sandusky would get better representation from the Hyperchicken.
I think the flaw with this view, is that by all accounts, Sandusky doesn't think he did anything wrong. He is seriously all kinds of fucked in the head (even beyond the whole raping kids thing). I think he honestly believes that everything he does helps kids and they want him to do it.

1-800-REALITY is a gay sex line.
At this point I think either Sandusky's going for some kind of bad representation defense at the appeal of his inevitable guilty verdict, or his lawyer is doing the greatest troll ever.

Look, like, five posts up.
Damnit I just saw it on Yahoo and was all like "I GOT A SCOOP."
Just, Jesus. He is so fucking bad at his job.
Sandusky is actually paying him real money to do this?

So you would waive your right to a trial in hopes of getting a lighter sentence... like a plea bargain?
Maybe it's just that he can't figure out how to work devices as complex as his door handle?
http://deadspin.com/5868312/one-of-jerry-sanduskys-lawyers-says-he-was-only-trying-to-teach-troubled-youth-how-to-shower-properly
Because they are now flat out admitting Sandusky was showering with the children, and thats not a good place to be in a "did he molest them trial."
Props from the comments on that article for "Wince and repeat."
He truely has the worst representation in the world. Central to any allegation of molestation is proving the accused had access and opportunity, by going with the "He was teaching them how to clean themselves" defense they just proved he had them both. Not to mention its completely freaking assinine to say that 10 year olds don't know how to shower themselves properly. WHAT THE F KIND OF DEFENSE IS THAT?!
Of course, presumably Dooley wasn't hands on, so to speak.
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
The other bit of analysis that came up over on BSD. Contrary to the GJ summary, you cannot actually see into the shower area directly from the locker room. There is a tiled toweling area that connects the two, and it would match at least one of the stories that the McQuerey saw the boy stick his head into that area while at his locker.
But as for actually witnessing the rape, he would have had to have moved into the shower area to actually view it. He could not have seen it from his locker as stated in the summary.

But but he said he stopped it! So when will he mention he went to the police? Or was that more bullshit bravado not under oath crap?
And lets not forget if you go to the comptroller of your city, its totally the same thing as going to the police.
Sad part is that second statement is straight out of a lot of apologists mouths even when its absolutely wrong. Schultz's office provides the funding for the police thats it, Schultz is not, has not been, nor will ever be a part of the police organization on campus, anymore than any of your local city council, comptroller, or mayor is considered a police officer. As a grown god damn man he should and probably did know that.
</cranky>
Should've stuck with the Michael Jackson defense. "Of course he likes little boys!"

I understand your anger, but now I feel guilty for agreeing just a little bit. Nobody deserves rape. I hope they place Sandusky in complete isolation so he doesn't get raped in prison :S
Apparently Child rape is not something to disturb peoples weekends over, nor is apparently an adult touching a childs genitals a crime.
Such a classy guy. I can see why people defend him.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7374819/over-340-former-penn-state-nittany-lions-players-support-joe-paterno-letter
Text of the letter:
At the same time, however, it’s important to remember that all of the facts surrounding this troubling matter are not known. Until all of the facts are known and due process has run its course, we ask that the public reserve judgment about Joe Paterno and the Penn State community.
Having known Coach Paterno for many years, we can say with certainty that Joe Paterno is a remarkable man and that Penn State is a remarkable institution. Joe has had a profound effect on the lives of almost every member of the Penn State family. Joe has taught Penn State faith, fairness, philanthropy and the importance of academic excellence – all values that make Penn State a great institution today.
Penn State’s new president recently said that he wants the university to be known as a great research institution. In fact, the institution that Joe helped build is much larger than a single coach or team. Penn State is 94,300 students on 24 campuses. We are Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Dickinson School of Law and Smeal College of Business. We are the world’s largest dues-paying alumni association. We are home of the world’s largest student run philanthropic organization. We are the University that has raised over $500,000, to date, for victims of child abuse during its darkest hour.
We are much more than just one man or one sport. We are a great research institution today and a university that prepares all of its graduates for success in many different fields.
Many in the Penn State community view the public’s rush to judgment of Joe as a rush to judgment of everything Penn State. We ask for due process for Joe Paterno and the Penn State community. Based on the immense quality of Joe’s character and the absence of all the facts, we stand in support of Joe and Penn State.
