Giharim was still a bitch and a half though, but I thought that was still a really cool fight and it made me a bit disappointed that Fi never did anything really awesome
at first I didn't realize shield bashes worked on him. He's not that bad without a shield, you just backflip away, then leap attack toward him when he attacks. It's slower but not harder. I've got the fully upgraded Sacred Shield so I may as well have the unbreakable one

I... kind of forgot they were even in the game after the first dungeon or so
my overall opinion
The story... kinda blew. Kinda blew bigtime. I was really hoping it would be an improvement over TP but, nope. It's around the same ballpark. The plot's just an excuse to go adventuring and sometimes also an excuse for cool scenes like Zelda knighting Link. But those scenes sort of happen in a vacuum and don't pack the kind of punch they would if they happened in, say, Wind Waker. You also don't know a lick of the story for the first 3 dungeons, and then only know a little bit of the story until after the 6th. It almost makes it feel more like a Mario game with Zelda gameplay than a Zelda game. Which is fine since, like I said, the gameplay is fantastic. I just wish we could go back to the Wind Waker/Majora's Mask days where they struck a perfect balance between gameplay and story.

Giharim was a really cool antagonist though, and I wish they had done more with his whole being an evil version of Fi. Demise was okay, but fighting the imprisoned 3 times was butts.
Gameplay was top notch though, i hope motion plus carries over to the wiiU so I can play more games like this

I think it would have worked far better if the reveal had come after the third dungeon, which is always the designated "plot twist" moment in Zelda games. Have him summon Demise and the rest of the game be about stopping him.
Of course Demise wasn't really much of a character either, he was just a generic "embodiment of the force of evil" type guy.
Also, given his red hair, large build, dark skin, and (joking) interest in taking over "Grooseland" I was entirely expecting Groose to become the vessel for the Demon King and THUS THE SECRET ORIGIN OF GANONDORF IS REVEALED. I'm glad they didn't do that though because it would have been stupid.

I also wasn't a fan of what they did to the overworld I really liked how twilight princess made the dungeons more overworldy (mansion, mine, prison etc.) and skyward still does that some, but they also made everything else more dungeony. Having skyloft be the only "village" area made the pacing of everything feel really long, like I never got a break to just wander and explore an area without having to deal with monster. Some kind of kikwi town, or mogma hole or something would have been a nice break to keep things from getting tedious.
I think this is still one of my favorite zeldas, because the combat and puzzles are soo gooooood, it has a lot of the charm that tp was lacking, and I actually really enjoyed the upgrading system and would like to see more of it.

the less I know what the hell the point of the story was
okay so demise managed to crack the seal and snatch zelda. That's bad. but the sky-dwellers had the triforce the entire time, they just didn't know about it. If you had just collected the song to start with and wished Demise to death right off the bat, there wouldn't have been any reason to explore any of the dungeons or create the master sword.
The entire story relies on coincidence, happenstance, and ignorance on behalf of the player to work.

The Water Dragon seems to have the Kikwi protected, and the Mogmas don't treat the monsters as anything more than an annoyance. I guess some of them get captured in the Fire Sanctuary but it's played for laughs so it doesn't really mean much to you. The rest of the world is nothing but wild country. Skyloft has a gigantic sky whale and also the power of the gods protecting it.
Obviously the implication is that things will get a lot worse if Demise manages to break out all the way, but you never actually see that. In OoT you're shown an idyllic fantasy kingdom that gets torn to shit. In MM everyone's been made so depressed by the Skull Kid's mischief that a lot of them barely even acknowledge the crashing moon. WW is a dang post-apocalyptic world. Here um... some weird penguin-flower things were kind of scared until the water dragon saved them with fairly little help from you?

- The beetle is like an awesome version of the boomerang. It's implemented great and used a lot already.
- The flying was awesome once I finally discovered you could flap the birds wings to increase height quickly. Before that it was confusing and a chore.
- I really like the upgrade system, and getting the components stopped being tedious as soon as I found the Treasure Charm. I've now completed 5 upgrades through the first two dungeons (wood shield x2, iron shield, seed bag, bomb bag). Call me a huge fan of convenience
- I really enjoy going back to the Sheikah stone after I complete a dungeon to make sure I was doing it right (with Ghirahim, I totally wasn't)
- It took me far too long to realize you could pick up bomb flowers and store them in your bomb bag. Didn't catch on until the second boss fight, at which point it was necessary.
- It made me really happy that the recent Zelda pattern of Forest-Fire-Water was subverted, and by such a fantastic third area.
The bird didn't need to be motion controlled but otherwise its pretty solid. Skydiving is annoying but I figure it'll be easier with practice . Should I move the entire remote or tilt it to move?

AFAIK nothing in the game works by moving the wiimote around. You don't need to move anything but your wrist.
