Did they fix Gothic 3 yet?

I'm a big fan of Gothic 2 and found it to be tons more fun than its competition, Morrowind, a few years back. When Gothic 3 came out, it received a lot of below average scores, many citing bad clues and game crippling bugs. I see plenty of copies of Gothic 3 going for ~$15 on ebay but I'm wondering if the game has been patched enough to be worth my time.
The big problem repeated over and over was something about combat animations keeping you down - has this all been fixed?
There have been four patches so far, but unfortunately I haven't tried it in awhile so I can't tell you how it plays now. I did play it at launch and it seemed fine enough for me, and the second patch improved the performance some (that's as far as I got up to). If you were a big fan of Gothic 2, I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy Gothic 3.
According to the devs, they are working on another big patch (no release date yet).
It will most certainly be the final patch.
I read a long time ago in a dev interview that it will consist of a new "world file" which will fix many problems (for example bushes which float in the air) which couldn't be fixed with small patches. That is the reason why they are targeting for a "big final patch". The combat system should be further improved as well.
I'm holding out for this patch myself, I bought the game on release but it was just too buggy for my taste.
Some critical bugs have already been fixed in earlier patches, most notably the infamous "ambient sound bug" which even reviewers didn't notice. This bug was the final straw for me to stop playing and I haven't played again since then.
If I were you I would wait for this supposed last patch as well.
There were a few graphic bugs as well. But yeah, apart from the animals it was fairly cool. Really waiting for a new system to finish it off (about 20 hours in) but it certainly ran ok on a fairly old machine.
First of all the combat system is all about attack speed i. e. who is faster wins.
Second important point: There is a big difference betwee animals and humanoid enemies (orcs, humans etc.) in the game.
Boars (and most other animals) belong to the fastest enemies in the game, once you are in stunlock in most cases you die. That means if you make one or two mistakes you are dead. You can win every fight without be getting hit, tough, but it's very difficult.
In contrast humanoid enemies are incredibly easy because you can just spam the rightclick attack which is a fast attack with forward movement. You will win everytime.
In short animals have to become easier humanoids have to become tougher.
I loved the shit outa this game, regardless of bugs. It could have been so much more, but what it became was still pretty enjoyable. I don't plan on replaying it anytime soon because I spent something like 150 hours on my first playthrough but if they ever do fix everything, I may just go back and play it again.
I bought this the same week it was released but it ran so badly compared to Oblivion so I shelved it until I've upgraded my comp. BTW, is it possible to play a succesful summoner/minion type character in this game?
Raising this thread from the grave to reiterate the question in the thread title. I'm considering grabbing this game, but was wondering if they've got it patched to the point of having a mostly bug-free, awesome RPG. Any G3 fans out there want to weigh in?

I tried playing it, some time late last year, but the numerous crash to desktops just started getting worse and worse till the point it was completely unplayable after 40 hours or so? So... not really recommended
Well, for what it's worth, I loved the first two and hated 3. That they actually managed to make the third game even buggier, while simultaneously fucking up everything that made 1 and 2 great, is quite an accomplishment.
And I say that as someone who had to restart Gothic 1 three times because all my 20+ saves got corrupted.

And man, this is probably the biggest necro I've ever seen.

I am an expert necromancer.
Braaaains!
Hey you! Did you end up buying it?
Well, yeah, the Witcher is fantastic. I'm trying to decide between getting Gothic 2 or 3 and going back and forth a lot. Opinions GO!
I guess I might have to start a new thread to get a decent response.
