i got a thanksgiving surprise

what a wonderful holiday, guys

i came home from my grandparents today to find out someone had broken into our house. we didn't think anything had been stolen till i went upstairs to my room, and out of the whole house, all they took was my laptop. they apparently checked under the mattress in my parents room/guest bedroom, threw some shit around in my room, and then left with just my laptop

didn't touch any of the fancy shit we have, the two other desktops, the flatscreen tv, my ps2 or dvd collection or my own very expensive gaming desktop

i live on the top floor of the house in a room by itself with a usually closed door and they apparently just went upstairs, glanced around, then fucked my shit up

the kicker is they didn't take my carton of cigarettes or anything, and i guess i'm lucky i still have my gaming rig

but goddamn this sucks i feel pissed and violated and holy shit

so how was ya'lls thanksgiving, good?

Not as shitty as my thanksgiving. I pretty much spent mine alone, had a Whataburger, and drank as much crappy gas station beer as I could stand which isn't much. I didn't even get properly drunk. Anyways, sorry about your PC, that really sucks.

Weird, kinda like my folks, their house got broken into and out of all the ridiculously expensive items lying around (including two laptops) they specifically went into my brothers room to take the keys to his car. That was it, they went through the whole house and took just the keys and the car.

I used it waaaay back in the day when it was Linux-only and very, very basic. It's come a long way. Their iOS app isn't worth installing, especially since Find My iPhone is free.

That reminds me of a dude I used to work with. Him and his wife spent nearly two weeks straight at the hospital because their infant daughter was extremely sick. They came home once she got better and found someone had broken into their house and had stolen everything that wasn't bolted down. All of the electronics, all of the furniture, the fridge, the bed, the baby's crib, all the food in the pantry, cleaned out the closets of all the clothes, EVERYTHING in the house. They were pretty fucking crushed.

I have all my writing and coursework (and business documents) synched up to Dropbox for this very reason. About 90% of it is text files which takes no time at all to synch and barely any space on the server, and I know I'll never again lose anything I work on.

Plus, I have at least three computers synched to that same folder so I can work on my stuff wherever.

every friday afternoon I zip that semester's "school" "writing" and "comic" folders and gmail them to three different places

I know there's probably a better way to do it but honestly I go with what I trust

and the light on in the bathroom is perfect I think if you have a window because it projects light outward but you can't see through the frosted glass, and it's reasonable that someone could be in there at basically any hour of the day or night, for any length of time

and the stove light seems like it's being left on so someone can get around in the dark, which suggests someone is there, even if they're sleeping
