EA Confirms MySims For Wii, DS

edited September 2007 in Games and Technology
Just plopped this up on The Snackbar...
Electronic Arts has taken the lid off of MySims, a new game in The Sims franchise developed for the Wii and Nintendo DS. In MySims, players begin by creating their own toy-like sim that reflects their personal style and attitudes, including accessories and hairstyles - new styles of sims can be unlocked through playing.

MySims moves the player to a delightful but disorganized town where they can re-shape everything and make it their own. The town is rundown, but the player can make it much more dynamic. Using a selection of building blocks, patterns and tools, players can design furniture and appliances, architect new homes and businesses, and re-define the the game's landscape.

As players explore and build up the town, they will get to know other residents such as Mayor Rosalyn P. Marshall and hotel bellhop Buddy. Once things start to look up, they'll meet and choose from a variety of other residents, and will be able to decide on what to build, and for whom. Examples offered by EA including being able to build a restaurant for Gino Delicioso the Italian Chef, or helping Ocean Breeze set up his Yoga studio.

For a better idea of the game's style, check out its official website. MySims is expected to launch this fall, though it is unknown if both versions will launch simultaneously, or if this game will finally bring the much anticipated Wii/DS interoperability and connectivity that has, until now, remained purely speculation.

Was never a terribly big fan of the series but I foresee this as being one of the successful titles for the Wii.

As if it wasn't hard enough finding one in the first place.

I'm actually interested in this. I don't know what has happened to me lately, but I find myself no longer as interested in my old standby RPS and RTS games. I now prefer things like this.

Funny how 'growing up' has made me more interested in 'kiddie' games.

For some reason I keep reading the thread title as "EA confirms Muslims for Wii, DS"

I think my girlfriend will buy this, then disappear from real life as she juggles both MySims and Animal Crossing.

It is in fact an unholy mutation of both... As such it has the greatest potential of either combined with the greatest chance of failure.

If EA get it wrong, it will disappear, a curiosity for archaeologists to ponder a thousand years hence.

If EA gets it right though... Well, I think BTP put it best:

I don't know, I like the idea, but those character models aren't doing it for me. Just replace them with Miis, have the in-game Miis have a few extra features like hats and stuff, and it'd be great.

I'd love a game like this that was patterned after the Wii style.

I dunno, I find the Miis to be kind of lifeless and doll-like, especially compared to how bright and expressive the characters are to this game. I think they'd be more of a limitation than a positive feature.

I really don't see Miis going much of anywhere outside of certain Nintendo-produced games.

Yes. The supplied link is for the English website, while a Japanese one has existed for about a couple months. The announcement, the site, and the article in NP all point to "yes" for a US release.

I think the character designs are cool, personally, partially because they kind of resemble a combination of Kubrick and Pinky Street figures.

No, it's "Boku to Sim no Machi" as in just "Me and Sims' Town" (or perhaps more equivalent to "Me and the Sims"). The title uses "boku" as in simply "me" or "I."

Miis don't have anything to do with the game.

Simple, but appropriate for the style and approach they seem to be going for.

Plus, screenshots almost always make game visuals look much worse than they really are.

I dunno, they look really jagged and just ugly. The characters aren't too bad, dollhouse-ish but the like the house in the gamespot screenshot? Ugly.

Still, it'll probably look better when it hits the streets.

I know what boku means, but I didnt know that was the name in roomaji. When it was announced, I know at least GameVideos (which is a part of 1UP) called it "Mii and the Town of Sims". I swear I read Mii functionality somewhere. Oh well.

I hoping they have their character editor model after the Mii characters with the addition of new things. That way the game could simply transfer your Mii into the game with this games style. I don't think it would be that hard considering both have a doll-like design.

This makes me really curious about the new Animal Crossing.

Mii functionality would be pretty golly gosh darn swell. But this is EA we're talking about. They probably won't incorporate it, and if they do there'll probably be a requirement first, for example you have to let Will Wright live with you for three weeks out of every year.

This may sound like a cool idea at first, but think about it. You'd have to keep a room ready for him in case he decides to drop by. His toothbrush would be there in your bathroom, and you might use it by mistake one braindead morning. You'd always feel weird inviting Lady Company over in case you get back and he's there, watching some weird Belgian porn or something (and I bet he leaves the toilet seat up, which will undoubtedly irk the ladies). He is a creative genius but I bet to compensate for this he's a total arse to be around.

I really hope this isn't going to be EA-nimal Crossing. The Sims isn't typically Animal Crossing is it? What's the goal of a Sims game? I've never played one.

Basically what you do in The Sims is build a house, form a life, find love, put out fires because your Sim is too damn stupid to cook without always starting one, etc... Basically you have more control over the environment and less control over its semi-autonomous occupants.

From what I've read, while the game seems to be sort of a combination of Animal Crossing, The Sims, and to some extent Sim City, it does still have the meeting people and forming relationships aspect that's key for The Sims.

What does the Eastern market think of EA Games? Traditionally they've been quite wary of games from the West and there aren't many that crack through (Starcraft and Worms are the only games I can think off of the top of my head that have been popular in Eastern countries). How do they feel about EA coming in and bastardising a Japanese style?

I mean, if it's a Japanese Devteam, and EA are only publishing, then fair enough. But if we're looking at some US/Canadian/UK Division working on this then it's... well, it's Teen Titans, isn't it? Ultimatelt you end up with something which might look vaguely similar to Japanese, but is quite obviously just ripped off from a Japanese style. I think that the East will notice this, and they will ignore the game.

Which, I am sure, is not what EA are looking for. Judging by things they really want this to be Big In Japan.
