he was a really eloquent man with some pretty dumb opinions. where is that quote where he said it's basically okay to bomb other countries as long as you're doing it for the sake of the nebulous value of freedom? even if you discount the nonsense counter-arguments about being a wishy-washy liberal i'm pretty sure that bombing other countries has actually made the world a less safe place to live for a lot of people.
am i calling christopher hitchens dumb? i said he had some pretty dumb opinions. lots of people that i regard as very smart (smarter than christopher hitchens, even) i think have some pretty dumb opinions sometimes.
also my use of that phrase makes perfect sense. i said that the crap joke had a je ne sais quois, so that even though it was a bad joke it still made me smile. i even quoted an example of the kind of joke that i mean. what's your problem with it. maybe you could illustrate your disagreement with charts, etc.
Apart from the whole "gentler sex" bit, which really seemed more like a joke, I don't really see what's so sexist about what he said. Because he said that he, personally, thinks it's his duty to provide for his significant other so she won't have to work. He's not saying she shouldn't be allowed to, he's just saying that he, personally, thinks she shouldn't have to.

Can someone explain to me how saying "I prefer to provide for my significant other rather than have her work, unless she wants to work in which case she is welcome to" is sexist

I'm pretty sure it isn't and people are just being geese.

What people hear in that statement is that women are weak and men ought to take the responsibility of working for a living because they are strong.
Now, I'm not decided on whether I agree with that interpretation, but I can see how it could be interpreted that way.

I'm not even attacking you I just love this movie to this day
I don't know who any of you people are either.
Where am I anyway?
I mean I've always known about it
but it's only recently that I've come to appreciate how great this bit really is.
get a rope.
from life
I mean I don't think I agreed with the way he said things but whatevs, it was his right to say them
no no, hitchens was right, women really are biologically predisposed to be less talented than men
Are you talking about him not thinking women are funny?
Because that was a joke. He was being mercilessly sarcastic and it ruled.
oh my bad, hitchens isn't sexist at all! he just makes "ironic" arguments that are functionally identical to "real" sexism
"No I was wrong this is totally torture" was his conclusion.
Took balls.
Well to be fair, it wouldn't really be ironic if it wasn't functionally identical to "real" sexism.

Is this the one that's on youtube where they go over all of the safety things and he does them all like teh instant the water touches him
Because holy shit
Pretty sure, yeah.
Yeah. He thought being consciously aware that this was simulated and he could bail out would mess with the idea of finding it scary.
Yeah... No.
Turns out your subconscious don't give a shit.

Like maybe have an unexperienceable oblivion.
A lack of all sensation and awareness seems pretty peaceful.
