Brad Pitt was the only acceptable thing about that movie.

Well, that and the boss thief from Home Alone 3.

I've seen Blade Runner only once.

It was on VHS with a friend who also hadn't seen it.

I thought it was a cool universe with awesome visuals but I need to watch it again so I can figure out what was happening in the main plot. Maybe I'll get my hands on the director's cut one day.

I've got all of the cuts on DVD. All of them.

May I borrow Final Cut sometime? I have a vast collection of movies you could borrow in return. Like half of them are animé but there's good stuff in there too!

Oh, yeah, by bringing it up, I meant that as an implicit offer to lend it to you.

Thanks man, you're good people. I don't care what everyone else says about you.

it's mediocre at best. the narrative is a complete mess. it's like the coens looked in their ideas notebooks and picked ten of the best scenes and wrangled an overarching plot to tie them together. a lot of the actors are miscast in roles they have no idea what to do with (only jk simmons really comes out of it looking good) and the film has no ending. not that it doesn't have a climax or an emotional high. it's that it doesn't have an ending. it just ends. thankfully.

Burn After Reading is a great flick

It is a total mess and ends in a thoroughly anticlimactic way, but then, that's the whole point of the thing

    That's why it's funny

It's no Big Lebowski or anything, but what is

I loved Burn After Reading but it was definitely a kind of uncomfortable love

I wonder, do you folks who dislike it have issues with Christopher Guest or Robert Altman films?

for real the last scene of the movie explains everything about how the movie was structured

the characters are all great and the actors playing them do excellent jobs.

plus it is straight up a hilarious movie

Burn After Reading has like the best anticlimax ending. JK Simmons just sells the shit out of it.

I am not a fan of that TED trailer, Pearce is coming across as a cartoony supervillian. plus, and this doesn't necessarily indicate anything about the quality of the movie, but the 2023 thing bothers me -- nearly indistinguishable androids in ~10 years? drive slow, homie

I feel like sci-fi screenwriters should pad their timelines by at least 50 years more than they originally think

though I'm still hopeful for off-world rutger hauers by 2019

  • tech_huntertech_hunter Registered User regular
Yeah I would just ignore the dates, I dont think any dates were mentioned in any of the other movies? I think maybe in Aliens when Ripley confronts Burke about the communication he sent to Hadleys Hope about the location of the Alien ship, but I cant remember for sure.

    Sig to mucho Grande!

This is the first movie I want to see in the theater since I went to the final Harry Potter installment. I'm really excited for it, which is apparently the only way to get me into a theater nowadays...I'm not sure when that changed exactly. Now I just wait patiently for everything to come out on dvd or on-demand or netflix, etc. This just seems like a movie I need to see in IMAX. :)

re: Sci-fi films - I'm rediscovering a love for sci-fi comedies. I've always loved MIB and Galaxy Quest, and Alan Rickman (who is fabulous) is hilarious as Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide. Any other suggestions for comedy scifi?

The dates jarred me too. We didn't invent fusion last decade at all.

We'll just have to assume this takes place in an alternate timeline.

Fuck, it's like Seinfeld, except the characters are outright psychotic instead of just borderline douchey.

They were more likable than the characters on Always Sunny.

To be fair, He says they will have androids that are nearly indistiguishable in a "few short years". And one can assume he's being very generous with that proposed schedule given it's meant to be an inspirational forward looking talk.
