Suggestions for free (legit) eBooks.

My wife got me a Nook for christmas, and I'm looking to load it up with stuff on the cheap. I know about the Baen CDs (from which I've long since gleaned anything of interest), and Project Gutenberg. Are there any other good places to look? I'm especially into Sci-Fi and fantasy.

The Nook blog often has books for free on Free Fridays. You can check it out here:

That's the only place that I know of. Most of my experience is with the Kindle, sadly.

http://www.manybooks.net will have a lot of overlap with Gutenberg, but you may be able to find some unfamiliar titles as well.

Yes, check your local library! My library has been getting a ton of "How do I download your ebooks?" questions post-holiday. It's one of the ways we're trying to survive.

How do library ebooks work, from the library point of view? I assume from the 'mind the drm' comment, the books expire, but is the library able to 'lend' as many ebooks at once as it wants, or is there a limit?

There's a license for each "copy" of the book i think, so there is a waiting list for popular stuff. I haven't tried it yet (I bought a kindle fire), but if you do amazon prime, there is an online lenders library where you can borrow books. I realize that doesn't help a nook owner very much...

I'm not ideologically opposed to DRM as long as it isn't super intrusive or restrictive, so the library is a good idea. And yeah, PG is kind of obtuse, so thanks for the manybooks tip. I'll go ahead and check out the Nook blog and hopefully I should have enough to get me through my upcoming vacation.
