I am comforted by Richard Dawkins’ theory of memes. Those are mental units: thoughts, ideas, gestures, notions, songs, beliefs, rhymes, ideals, teachings, sayings, phrases, clichés that move from mind to mind as genes move from body to body. After a lifetime of writing, teaching, broadcasting and telling too many jokes, I will leave behind more memes than many. They will all also eventually die, but so it goes. - Roger Ebert, I Do Not Fear Death

Well most games at least have the conceit that characters are fighting for keeps. And on the "practical" vs "sporting" spectrum fencing is right at home with Kendo and Tae Kwan Do and professional westling in being about as far from "practical" as you can possibly get.

What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

Yes but fencing in the sense it is used today, as in the sport with foils, epees, sabres etc... is what I was talking about. And I assume you were as well since most of the weapons associated with fencing post-date swords being obsolete as real weapons of war.

I mean, then again "dinosaur" is ridiculously broad and is most likely not a monophyletic clade

Help me find this image: there was an 80s ad for the Capcom Club that came with every NES game of the era. A teen was reclining in a radical, tubular Capcom-themed room and giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

The clade of Theropoda includes birds.
Theropoda (theropod /ˈθɛrəpɒd/; suborder name Theropoda /θɨˈrɒpɵdə/, from Greek meaning "beast feet") is both a suborder of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs, and a clade consisting of that suborder and its descendants (including modern birds).

    Birds.

    Are.
