I wish Dash had been a double-tap instead; I spend a lot of time either not dashing when I want to because I didn't flick the circle fast enough, or dashing into pits because I flicked the circle too fast while just trying to navigate normally.

Seriously, the controls on this are terrible.

So what do you think of Smash Bros?

It was a bit of mindless fun if you like mashing buttons and watching chaos on a screen. But, I could never get the hang of smash attacks, either, unless I was cheating with a classic controller's c-stick smashes.

    Hmm.

I think you're confusing tilts with smashes. Smash attacks are literally jam the stick in a direction and hold. If that show dash works in KI it sounds superior to a double tap.

Beat stage 3 last night. Switched to claws to help stave off the projectile missiles the boss throws at you. The claws kinda sucked for the flying area because of their low damage, but made the ground area easier. It's give and take I guess.

I beat this game a few days ago (nowhere near done with it though), excellent ride the whole way through, air battles felt like an interactive theme park ride, like the BTTF ride or Star Tours, and the land parts were enjoyable too. Despite everyone complaining about controls, I actually don't have too much of an issue with the control scheme, I guess it depends what size your hands are. I've actually had more discomfort trying to use the stand because of how big my arms are, and if they get tired while im playing I can just rest my elbow on my leg and be hunky-dory. Can't wait to really dig into this game, I've already gotten and fused a ton of weapons, and multi is great fun despite sucking at it quite a bit.

I dunno how much of this is spoiler, it's not like this is Mass Effect 3 or anything but,
    Spoiler:

    Also,
    Spoiler:

The one thing I've noticed is that occasionaly, while playing, bits of food that I've previously eaten seem to be coming back up into my mouth, but a bib solved that quickly enough.

Theses are the tourney rules for KI at PAX East:
Kid Icarus: Uprising - Teams will be put together to play rounds of Light vs Dark BUT the highest score moves on, not the winning team. Assuming 72 participants, 12 will move on to the final round where everyone will play 3 rounds of Light vs Dark in random match ups. Those 3 scores will be added up to determine the overall tourney winner!

    Banned Powers
    • Libra Sponge
    • Pisces Heal
    • Trade Off

    Banned Weapons
    • Magnus Club

Any body have an idea why those powers and weapon are banned? I haven't gotten them yet, but was more curious than anything.

Is the tourney still open? and what day is it supposed to be on?

and why havent my KI Club Nintendo cards gotten here yet? damn this shipping is slow

I don't mean to be snippy (and I've had problems with that very same sequence) but please, tell us MORE about how you hate the controls!

I think the problem here isn't necessarily KI:U, but the 3DS as a handheld. I feel with 1 or 2 more buttons, you could feasibly flesh the controls out better. Case in point, having the Dash on a L or R trigger would probably help (Direction+L=manual dashing). Also, I don't mind the Slide Pad in other games, but something about it here really exacerbates the problem, unlike a clicky analog stick would.

If the touchscreen were more finger or thumb friendly, I'd probably go with my hand as the primary input. The trackball/globe camera still works well in my opinion. I would not want the gameplay to be compromised just to outfit your typical 3rd-person shooter controls. In the Flying battles it flatout wouldn't work, but the same can be said for the Ground combat.

Seriously guys, the controls are fine, you just have to make sure you're holding the system with both hands, I agree dash could have been refined as I did have a few falls into a pit or two, but it really isnt that huge a problem. I don't get why it's destroying the game for a lot of people whereas I only see it as a minor annoyance.

I'm sad nobody responded to my spoilers about the characters :(, maybe not many people actually finished all the chapters yet

    Highest score moves on?

Should be winners. Winning is the point. I've lost matches before where I was around 1.5k because pit got knocked into a hole or something, that's just how it is.

I do wonder why those powers and that weapon are banned.

I'm not trying to be my normal Nintendo shill here but if you get into it KI:U's multiplayer is one of the best experiences I've had in team based deathmatch.

I fucking love it. So many layers, nice balance of controlled chaos and random happenstance.

I would think so. Mine were in a little plastic packet and rubber cemented to a two-page Kid Icarus Uprising ad.

Usually, the only difference between subscriber copies and newsstand copies are the covers (usually less text to show off the art, or different art altogether, and the little blank spot for the mailing address). I can't recall if these cards are subscriber only. Normally, special subscriber issues with bonuses come sealed in plastic to protect whatever bonus stuff comes with it. For example, I remember receiving an issue that had a promo DVD with the first episode of the Pokémon Black & White anime.

But yeah, the card packet was glued to a two-page ad, which leads me to suspect that it may not be a subscriber exclusive, just exclusive to the magazine itself.

I do wonder why those powers and that weapon are banned.

From what I understand the Magnus club is the most powerful melee weapon and also no slouch at range - its power attack recharges very quickly.

And it's turned out that melee is where it's at online, it's the OP combat of choice. People decide on powers based on mobility to close the gap with enemies and on freezing and slowing abilities to hold them in place while you whale on them.

    GW2sig_zps0e27ccbc.png
  • FerquinFerquin Mariologist Renton, WA, USARegistered User regular
The buckle is still the same. The bottom of the triangle is clipping into his robe.

And the jewel on his shoulder is there too. It's what holds the top of his tunic.

And if you look at the official box art...

    box-art.jpg

...he still has the hand guard. Perhaps it's only when he holds that specific bow? Notice he only has the haloes around his forearms when he's holding that bow, and the haloes go around the light arrow when he's drawing it. Perhaps it's not rendered in Uprising because of all the different weapons. Or maybe it's a specific bow in Uprising, perhaps the most powerful one.

Here's a better pic of Pit in Brawl (from the Smash Bros. Dojo site).

    pit_070525b-l.jpg

In any case, the models appear identical to me.

This is the kind of music that people would not believe is from Kid Icarus Uprising, a Nintendo handheld game:

EDIT: There's basically no point in trying to isolate one piece of music that people should listen to, as a particularly great example. There isn't one bland track in the whole game.

The only thing I don't like about the music is that it's not all unique to the stages it's in. It would be perfect if there were just more tracks to fill in the spots where they had to re-use stuff. And

  • Xenogears of BoreXenogears of Bore Registered User regular

It took me this whole time to realize Sakurai ripped the main menu straight out of Brawl.

The sound of eight hooves reaches his ears, comes from the heavenly light, two wolves howls fills his heart with fear, and he sees two ravens fly. Down from the sky a warlord rides, like fire his one eye glows, and just before the preacher dies he knows his god is false.

i fused this 206 value club but it kinda sucks.

Just equip the highest-value ones that suit your playstyle. My strongest and highest-value weapon is a Hewdraw Club with 6 stars in Melee and 4.5 stars in Ranged, but I don't use it much because I don't really like clubs. It's the only way I was able to beat anything at intensity 9 so far, though.

In multiplayer, you're penalized for using high-value weapons so there's a tradeoff.

  • Xenogears of BoreXenogears of Bore Registered User regular
You're not penalized so much as you will become a target once people realize how much you are worth.

Also I have a few 300+ weapons that I wouldn't use because the base weapon is so bad. 315 paw pads for example. Hate paw pads.

Base weapon is the most important thing, then attributes, then stars, then rank.

That and a freeze effect seem to be the way to go for multiplayer weapons. I've yet to run into either effect on a weapon.
