[OOC] Star Wars: An Empire's End - Them's space fightin words!

edited March 2012 in Critical Failures
STAR WARS
An Empire's End

What is this?
This is a Star Wars Saga RPG for 4 or 5 players.

Seriously? Why should I care about this?
Because I'm running it <3. Also, because this campaign will lean a little heavier on the themes laid out in Galaxy of Intrigue.

What if I dont have that book?
Dont even worry. All you need to know is that the campaign will be more focused on things like sabatage, deception, spying, and uncovering hidden plots.

That sounds awesome?
That's not a question. But yes, it does. Not to say that that is all there is, after all, half the title is WARS, but come prepared for solutions that dont start with a blaster. Also, FYI, this campaign will be starting out during the time between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

Ok, but who are the players?
@ArcanisTheImpotent as Adrian Calderas
@fadingathedges as Fitzburrough "Sweet Fitzy" Sweet
@daniant as Zithra Melitch
@Heir as Kit Highwind

Personally I like the period of time leading up to the Empire Strikes back. The Rebels just scored a big victory. The galaxy is sort of stunned and I think a lot of people who had been holding back would be coming out to join the cause.

Of course the fact that you have a base being established on Hoth doesn't hurt matters either.

Sorry, I was wrong then. I thought I detected a hint of distaste in your typing. I just find that a lot of the "kids these days" think that if you can't be a Jedi, then whats the point of playing a Star Wars game? Which is a little disspointing in a setting as rich as it is.

There are plenty of other cool things in Star Wars besides Jedi. People just get grumpy because they're so iconic and they want to be non-whiny Luke Skywalker.

Interesting. I'll be getting something up later today.

I take it it's a no-no to be a Force user? I'm thinking of a noble so far...though a soldier would be fun.

Well, since this is the Rebellion era, jedi are rare. If you want to play a jedi, you have to convince me how they exist.

Not a problem. Personally I like playing other classes more than I do a Jedi. However I can see why people are drawn to them. They're such fun to play and experiment with.

Also I would like to play a Wookie Noble.

While I empathize with that sentiment, I for one have always associated Star Wars with Jedi and Force. It's what made me fall in love with it. While everyone else idoloized Han Solo growing up, I always cheered for the annoying farm kid who grew up to be a jedi.

i was going to outright ban jedi, but i felt so guilty about not including a plot about the force and destiny and resisting the dark side etc. however, it is very unlikely that i will be taking 2 jedi in this little party

See I always cheered for the odd characters in Star Wars. Han Solo and Luke were cool but there were more interesting people moving around in the background.

That said I loved the Jedi even then.

Dude, don't get me wrong. I'm not a Jedi hater. The one thing that I will forever love the prequels for is that the Jedi truely are badass mother fuckers who will tear shit up in glorious ways with flashlight swords and kicks to face. First thing I said to my buddy after Phantom Menace was, "Luke Skywalker was a pussy." There's just a lot more, I think, to the setting that deserves its moment in the sun too.

Anyhoo...there's a game being recruited for in this thread...

also i'm going to submit my character so everyone can just go home:

Adrian Calderas - Heir to a Jedi Legacy

Born and raised on Dantooine, Adrian is a young man of conscience with a strong back and mind. He is a farmer, friend, son, and Jedi Apprentice. His teacher is his mother, Jedi Commander Suri Tor-Vas, who forsook the Jedi way after barely escaping the Jedi Purge. Born of a love for her son and a desire to teach, Suri has been teaching Adrian in the ways of the Force.

He is strong in the Force... but he is not a Jedi yet.

i will not list my references because i'm arc

edit: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/comment/8108598#Comment_8108598 here's some bleedin references

as for class build, i'm thinking scout leading into Jedi at some point; i'm envisioning the character not as a Jedi, but as he is pulled into the Rebellion and takes the problems of lesser men on his shoulders, will receive training in the Jedi arts from his mother

Man, I need to stop thinking about joining PBPs when I know I'm going to stop posting and turn into one of those terrible people who vanishes as soon as I get some crazy emotional or life turmoil happening, but dammit I like Saga, and Rebellion Era is my faavorite.

Either way, I want to watch this campaign play out. I've got an idea for a character, but I guess I need to check some background stuff that I can't spare the time to investigate at work.

It was a statement more in reference to Mark Hamill swinging a lightsaber in 1983 vs. Ewan McGregor doing it in 1999, rather than the character of Luke himself, but yeah, I'll stand by it.

    Oh!
I used to run a West End d6 game where my players were rebel intelligence agents. This has that feel; I wants it.

    Story
Fitzburrough Sweet is a human hailing from Ord Mirit, where he served in the planetary militia as a demolitions expert, mechanic, and sometime pilot - until the empire garrisoned his homeworld and dissolved the militia. This act, and the particulars of an imperial "dissolution" didn't sit well with Fitz, and he made a point of letting them know with his own particular brand of black eye. The rebellion found him six months later, on the lam on the outer rim, and recruited him for some 'special project'...

    Role

    Class
Scout (Soldier or Scoundrel would also work). Mechanics (possibly with focus), Perception, Stealth, Pilot, Knowledge Skills in the realm of: explosives, ship systems, security procedures.
I recall a demolitions feat, but I don't see it anywhere so perhaps I'm mistaken. Might take some punch or wrench combat related feats.

    Ref
"Surrender in the name of the Galactic Respublic!.... Republic. The Galactic Republic. Surrender in the name of it."

edit~ I REMEMBER! Demolitonist is a Soldier talent. Hmm. All three classes really have their perks for this so I'll just leave it as is, and if I end up a solider or scoundrel my skills will just line up accordingly.

Do I get flogged in the town square or just on live TV? I honestly don't know which I'd prefer... :)

I have a couple of concepts in mind for character submissions. For your Consideration:

    1) "Tarl Nisbet" Male Human (Corellian from Nar Shadda? Or other Nar Shadda fitting race) Shipjacker/Pirate - The wayward son of a diehard separatist, down on his luck running the streets. Steal ships from "The Man" and sell them for fun and profit. Maybe he'll find something to beleive in (ie: the Rebellion) along the way? Scoundrel class; Good pilot, decent thief, handy with a blaster and an electronic lockpick.

    Pic:
    mal-portait.jpg?cb5e28

    2) "Xirria" Female Falleen Singer/Artist - Outspoken in her views against the Empire, the composer of various anti-New Order songs/unflattering artworks. Chased off Coruscant by COMPNOR and fled into the arms of the Rebellion. Now she uses her charm and guile as a recruiter. Noble class (with maybe some scoundrel in there?) with an emphasis on the jibber jabber and whatnot. Charming, Alluring, etc. A good Face for the party?

    Pic:
    Savan_-_SWGTCG.jpg

IC Example 1: A talky talk exchange between a Paladin and a Giant king.

IC Example 2: A random example of a combat post

    EDIT: Feedback would be appreciated.

My main idea for a character currently is a Human Soldier who washed out of the Imperial Army and went into business for himself. He's done some things for the Rebellion in the past, and certain events have made him very sympathetic to their cause.

core book is just fine. imo, thats the beauty of saga: you can make all kinds of cool characters using just the core book.

    Questions questions.

If i've never done post by post before, does that mean i am disqualified? I don't have a post to link to really so...maybe this isn't my game.

Second. What system are you using. The d20 system? Or the D6 system? You make no mention of it, but i'm assuming d20...

Finally, if i don't have any of the books, how then can i make a char in your game?
