A friend of mine was like "One of these days I'm gonna invite you to a black people party"

Every time I go to a party where I am the sole mixed person or, in the instance of a party I went to last year, the only half Black person, I always get nervous.

Because someone always says something racist.

Like, someone said the n-word when I was a couple of feet from them and I was like "WELL IT'S TIME TO LEAVE THE PARTY"

    Oh man. Doug Stanhope.

Saw him live one time; second show of the night, so he was getting hammered. Fairly raunchy stuff came out of his mouth that night. Hilarious things, but things I won't repost on these forums.

I don't know if I could really measure it, why? I mean, 6th grade it was a daily onslaught of "HEY N-WORD" to my face at 8 AM.

I think the most upset I've been (because after awhile you're just expecting the n-word, which is pretty sad in my opinion) was when someone saw my dad and they argued with me about him being my "real" dad or my step-dad. They kept trying to tell me he was my step-dad. I was pretty pissed off.

    @Richy

Is this clear enough, do you think?

    I am writing a syllabus!
Laboratory Grading: The laboratory grade is worth ~25% (120 points) of the final grade. Students will earn 10 points per laboratory, with the ability to drop the two lowest scores out of the 14 laboratories for the semester. The 10 points will be distributed through a Pre-class quiz (7 points) as well as exit questions administered by the TAs during class periods (3 points). The points from the pre-class quiz will generally contain 5 points concerning material from the previous laboratory, as well as 2 points covering current material to encourage students to read through the assigned laboratory prior to the start of class.

In addition, students have the potential to earn up to 5 bonus points. These points will be awarded based on a group presentation on the upcoming laboratory and will be graded by the presenting students' peers. Each laboratory group will present once.

Sounds clear to me. The only odd thing is "~25%". You should be able to know exactly what percentage of the final mark the labs account for.

We had a good time. Some highlights:

    - Never touched a match the whole trip - got the fire started under our archaeologist's direction from his tinderbox, restarted from the coals on Saturday evening.

    - Thought my youngest had gotten lost, his group had walked out of shouting distance. Just when I was getting nervous, he returned from a different direction, demonstrating he knew the place far better than I thought.

    - Whiskey, relaxing, and folk tunes I'd never heard, including the history of each of them stretching back to the 1600s.

    - Rare opportunity to see the Milky Way in stunning clarity.

    - Taking these city boys on their first camping trip ever, and not mucking it up with propane heaters, oil lanterns, pre-prepared food, or electricity of any sort.

    - The pack of coyotes that got closer and closer on Saturday night, until I could tell they were within a couple hundred yards of the camp. Made me edgy, even though I knew they wouldn't come near the fire...

Oh, yeah this wasn't a "friendly" n-word scenario.

I just don't use the word, and it always gets awkward when I ask Black friends not to refer to me in that manner. They don't get it and then we have to do "On this very special episode of..." shit on why I'm all opposed to it.

What you think "makes sense" has nothing to do with reality. It just has to do with your life experience. And your life experience may only be a small smidgen of reality. Possibly even a distorted account of reality at that. So what this means is that, beginning in the 20th century as our means of decoding nature became more and more powerful, we started realizing our common sense is no longer a tool to pass judgment on whether or not a scientific theory is correct. - Neil Degrasse Tyson

That is true. I put that there because of the potential for a student to earn greater than 120 points (which is exactly 25%). I don't handle grading the other 75% of their work, so I don't know how the instructor is going to handle the extra five points.
