Damn it EM why do all the fighters I happen to really like have to be obscure shit?
For me personally, I don't want to go through the frustration of losing constantly in order to get better at the game. I can improve by playing people at my level, it's just slower.
I'm not playing the game to improve at the game, I'm playing the game to have fun, and being good at the game means I have more fun. But I'm not willing to go through a bunch of playthroughs that are frustrating and not-fun just to get better at the game faster.

It's true! It's just hard for me to really sticking with one game when I like the obscure stuff...
Hm.
because you are a fighting game tourist, gallavanting around and taking home little souvenirs
YOU NEVER FIGHT LIKE A REAL MAN
I don't think losing is a bad thing. You are highly likely to play people who are better than you, because they are likely the ones to introduce the game to you. It's like chess...how many people discover chess at the same time as their friends? If you have the option of playing with other new people, that's great. I certainly would choose to play them instead of the best player(s) in the room. Sometimes, however, the only avenue is to suck it up and learn to play the game with people who are better than you.
Inqui, if you want your friends to play the game with you, how about having them play each other without you? Either that, or guide them as they play against you.
The only way to learn Starcraft is to have a Korean man beat you in five seconds over and over again, and you slowly take longer to die
I think that's a good idea, as long as they're not the kind to see it as condescending. I mean, it sucks when you are interested in a game before any of your friends, so clearly you're going to have an advantage at some point. I think it's lame for them not to give the game a real chance.
Oh Simon, you know if you want me to clench my anal cavity for you all you have to do is ask.
I am available to demonstrate it in-person
Play bot games or with randoms for a bit?
I need to find people around my level, but all the PA people i know are beyond my level because they started way earlier than me. Sigh...

Do you think I could get away with making that my avatar?
Would depend on how zoomed in you are.
Bot games are awful and teach nothing but bad lessons and playing with randoms is damaging to my fragile psyche.

I love the game, I just don't have anyone of my skill level to play it with.

LoL is the exception to what I was saying earlier. Not only does it usually suck to lose but somehow the skill curve in that game defies all logic. People simply become too good at that game. It's like they bend the rules of time and space.
No, but, you made it sound like you want to get back into the grove of things.
That's great for you! I wish I could be more like that!
Tons, actually, through elementary school chess clubs. Not really the main point though, I guess.
......or play one of the myriad of other games he owns?
I mean, when the only people I could play Starcraft 2 with were either miles better or miles worse than I was, I stopped playing Starcraft 2 and started playing other games.
To be fair, I don't think Inqi is miles ahead of his friends in this game; I think it's a different situation than the more general one we're discussing now. But it's totally understandable why people wouldn't want to play a game they're always losing.
"Those people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do."
Sure, maybe, but it's nowhere near as fun as against people, especially without teamfights and jungling and all that.

Some are, some aren't, and of course, it's entirely subjective.
That was only 200 pages. At least it's not Atlas Shrugged.
Even if i get in the groove of things, the people i play with are several hundred wins ahead of me, and the people i play against have several hundred wins over me as well. They simply have more experience playing than me. Heck, i'm only level 26, i don't even have full rune pages or masteries...

Actually yeah, Inqi has heard me say a million times that one of the main aspects of a game that determines how much I like it is whether or not I can have fun while losing.
"Those people who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do."
And? I mean, it's not like there is a 1:1 correlation between games played and skill. I am better than some people I know who have played hundreds of more games than me, and worse than people who have played far less than me. If you are behind your friends, catch up by playing pub games. Mute everyone if you don't want to hear them talk.

Quite well, and yourself?
