Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

I think Indie Royale does tend to suffer in quality because (a) they have a known schedule. That means possibly compromising on quality of games just to make the schedule (b) some games aren't on Steam. Which makes them pretty much non-existent as far as most people here are concerned.
My favorite part about Microsoft's FAQ for GFWL is basically them subtly saying "Steam sucks, we're so much better" over and over again.
Which is funny when you stop and ask yourself which service out of the two is the one that brings people super cheap games whenever they want them, and which service shits the bed on a regular basis and eats people's saves and is completely unnecessary.
Thanks muchly. Amazing generosity. Now where's that crab?
What's really great is that, even though games are still being released that utilize GFWL, Microsoft practically does not even support it at all.
EDIT: Here's their awesome GFWL support page

I wasn't necessarily talking about a specific bundle, just in general. Even the Humble Bundle has been a little uneven in my opinion, and I've only gone in for one of the Indie Royale bundles (the first one, of which Gemini Rue was the only game I've ended up with much of a favorable impression of). I'd never even heard of the Indie Gala thing until people started posting about it in this thread a few days ago.
As I said, I'm not opposed to the idea of more of these kinds of things cropping up, I just haven't been impressed with how they've been executed so far. But maybe that's just me; it is, of course, largely a matter of personal taste as to whether or not you're getting a lot of value out of all these things.
this pleases me greatly as it's the one thing I missed from the winter sale.
SWTOR: Allanna (Shadowlands) / TSW: Sara-Luna
Is it any good?
Guild Wars 2: Entriech.3507 | Scythe Gearsnap, Phlork, Irenic
Perhaps, but I would include the word big in quotes as well. Because, really, the game's they always hype up are.... underwhelming.
That said, I've rarely been disappointed with a Humble bundle. I'm mainly not interested in the Indie Royale faire.
Edit: Lots of double posting stuff going on the past couple days.
This isn't just a rose-coloured glasses nostalgia jackass talking, the new one is really bad.

If that's the case that's fine with me. Desura is a fine service and could use the promotion in my opinion. If you want a deeper offering of indy games and Alpha Boosting in a nice, unobtrusive Steam-like client then you should check out Desura. I've bought a few things through them now and have really enjoyed some quirky games that would probably never show up on Steam. Like the awesome Sonar.
Huh. Would you look at that. I finally got mad at the Internet. Thanks, GFWL!
Secret Satan's Wishlist!
Sometimes it's easier just to get them on Steam.
It's a great price to never have to look for the discs again /enabler
Edit: damn, beat in the best way
Get 1 or 2 off GOG, instead.

Seconded. Once the control scheme is burned into your brain (about 30 minutes playtime) you won't have issues. Also, it lets you tap a directional key and see how the cube will move without actually moving, which is nice when you're starting out.
But yes. As you go, the levels become progressively more and more unstable, with lots of things moving around and shifting under your feet as you progress. I was just rolling along, and suddenly I'm being transported on a X-Wing made out of cubes. And the little hill I'm blocking around on is reorganizing itself as I move, inching closer to the other side of a chasm as I bop switches on it. It can be a rather clever game.
I haven't played Extended, but there's a dark cube that pops up there and does Knuckles impersonations, trying to kill you as you work through assorted levels. That's also cool.
All this being said, I hate the Edge mechanic the game is named after. Fortunately, you don't have to be good at it to get through the first set of levels.

For one thing Steamworks offers persistent leaderboards and in-game party support. WH40K Space Marine offers both. I have MANY games on Steam that offer persistent leaderboards through Steamworks. That shit has been going on forever.
There is also this jewel.
Maybe that's not an outright lie per se, but it is pretty damn dishonest. How is not being able to save your game unless you are logged in to a profile not a form of DRM? And granted, while Steam's Offline support is wonky as hell, it's there and it allows you to play your games offline (when it works). Steam also allows you to install your games anywhere, unless so restricted by the publishers wishes, usually by using a third party DRM. You can install Steam on as many computers as you like. Disingenuous is the word that comes to mind.
Well I spent three hours stumbling around downtown San Diego drunk off my ass, trying to find a monocle and cane, but that's the best I could do. Sorry.
Also let's not forget that Humble Bundle 2 wasn't that good, fucking Cortex Command being awesome and abandonware...

DF2: JK is so, so, so good. One of my favorite games of all times.
Seriously good.
I'd say it's aged pretty well, besides - much better than Dark Forces 1 has.
Just remember to explore each and every level to the fullest extent possible. You'll want to get the "All Secrets Found" bonus force points for every level.
