The one thing that really dropped my jaw reading the bill was making it illegal to say how to get around the system. Yes, SOPA and PIPA had anti-circumvention clauses just like the DMCA.

Meaning if you posted on a website told how proxies worked, how to downloaded Tor, or even gave out the raw IP address, you were breaking the law and could be sued. And the website you posted on could be shut down by the same law.

    Yuck!

There are multiple things in that bill that would make me oppose any good that it might possibly do. On principle I avidly oppose any infringement on freedom of speech. It's freaky how any elected official would be okay to pass either one of these bills.

This is one of the more coherent discussions on the issue of bad-internet-law-making. What I appreciate most though was the mentioning of how the hearings went, and how the opposition to SOPA was allowed to present itself and how it was treated.

In short, goddamn old people need to not be law makers anymore, it's over. Young people who understand shit need to be in place.

I appreciate the effort to explain what reasonable motive led to the bill, however that motive may have been deranged. Every other presentation I've seen of all or any of this has been black-hat'd decepticons in Washington slicing through our freedoms with their red lightsabers. That sort of misinformation seriously bothers, for some reason.

The single most important thing this video does in my opinion is draw attention to the shocking and willful ignorance displayed by the legislature. It makes you feel scared for the internet as a whole. Great job guys.

There's a lot of shit young people don't understand nor care to understand. The TorrentSpy case a few years back is an excellent case in point. It bothers me that both sides of the debate think the other is illegitimate. Let's be honest - if all the legislators at the hearing were of the sort you want, would they have treated the opposition respectfully? Or would they have acted towards them in the same manner Google's rep was

(And let's be honest - Google's hands aren't exactly clean, considering how many pirate sites have AdWords accounts...)

I frequently wonder how well people understand the way a bill becomes a law. SOPA being dead in the water effectively meant PIPA was as well. Even if passed, a bill needs an identical one in the other house (in the case, the House of Representatives) to then be passed along to the President. If one house does not come up with such legislature, there can be no furthering of the bill.

As disturbing the ignorance might be from members of Congress, the lawmakers who are supposed to be thinking about this stuff, it's pretty damn disturbing the amount of misinformation I've seen about the legal process at the same time.

I realized last week, hearing the actual normal voice of the narrator, I can't stand his modified voice for these anymore.

I know a few people who have watched one episode, enjoyed it a lot, but decided not to watch any more because they can't stand the voice.

I think he should use his real voice. the filter adds nothing.

The changed voice actually does let me listen to it easier. Which is important because most of the time I listen to EC when I'm at work. I think they should keep it.

I dunno, I like the voice used for the presentation of EC episodes. It kinda helps to subtly remind me to take things with a grain of salt, whether I agree or disagree with it.
