I think the part that bothered me most was (end of season 4 spoilers)

Kozik's death by landmine was just awful. They just got rid of him, showed an arm drop, and then... nothing. They have a drink in his memory, but absolutely nothing compared to the sheer mourning nearly every other non-traitor character got. I honestly lost most of my remaining faith in the show when that happened, it was so terrible.

I think hes on another show now, which sucks since I've wanted him to become a full time cast member since he was featured. This is almost as bad as if they killed off Walter Goggins in the first episode of Justified.

So we got dumped on with about 12 1/2 inches of snow yesterday. Fun stuff. Especially when I get home to see that the landlord hasn't had the plow out and I've got a 4 foot snow pile in front of my driveway thanks to the city plows.

On a more positive note, hopefully going to be getting approved for financing on a new (well new to me it's a 2008) car.

I understand the need to sometimes write a character off for real-world reasons, but that wasn't even writing him out, that was just going, "hey, remember that character? well, now you're the only one, not even the characters give a shit he's gone"

Jim Butcher is from, and lives in, Independence, MO. It's an exurb on the opposite side of KC from me, maybe 40 or 50 miles away. It's one of those kind of shitty postindustrial edge cities that hasn't had a new building constructed since maybe the late 60s or early 70s, so the big main drag is just this endless parade of shopping centers with falling-apart signs for like pawn shops, payday loan places and karate dojos. All the concrete is rotting and there are weeds in all the parking lots. It's the kind of place where everyone's on meth and listens to metal or country.

I feel like this explains everything about his writing.

I thought Jim Butcher's books were light and fun. He can definitely write a good action scene, although that may have only been in the later books. I didn't like the first one much, but I was happy I persevered.

I mean, they were not deep or anything, but I don't think that's what he was aiming for.

They are like action movies in book form.
