This project started as my desire to have a Deathwatch detachment that not only had totally unique models, but also played well on the tabletop. Through chitchatting in the WH40K thread, I realized it would be a cool idea to have an army EXTREMELY unique in that every was painted by someone else. Nothing would make each Marine stand more out than having their own painting style. To this end, I asked the forum if they would be interested in painting the army I built, for a commission, to which I got an overwhelmingly positive response. Such is the awesomeness of our community, many members even offered to supply their own models, which is far beyond what I was looking for and is just another example of how awesome it is to have such a community.
The army has been mailed out, and more than half of the mans have been returned! We've accounted for all but one model, and hopefully this project can be finished by the end of December. It's been a long road, all timelines have been broken by, well, almost all of us. I've never been a stickler about the turn around, I'm just happy to see people participating and waiting to see the army all together.

The Models

The 10 Paladins will all be normal marines in "Artificer" armor. There's just more fluff to support that look than damn near 20 Deathwatch terminators, and I think we can get much better looking models that way.
The 7 Terminators will be, surprise, terminators.
The 10 Interceptors will be normal jump pack marines.
Powerfists/Thunderhammers will both represent Thunderhammers. The GK codex has no PF, and doubles S at I1 is pretty obvious.
Halberds/Relic blades will represent Halberds. If it's got more than a one hand grip and a spear/axe head, it's a halberd.
Swords/Axes/Lightning claws will represent Swords. If it's a basic one handed weapon, it's a sword.
Heavy Bolters/Assault Cannons will represent Psycannons. Deathwatch marines use both wrist/underarm mounted weapon systems and suspensor fields to cut the weight of weapons in half. With this, a heavy bolter weighs roughly 30% more than a storm bolter, something commonly seen wrist/single hand held. This means shoulder/underarm mounted heavy bolters are a go.
Storm bolters will be represented by whatever bolters your marine would be carrying. Chained up BT bolters, GK style storm bolters, combi-flamer bolters... it'll all represent storm bolters with no other effect besides aesthetics. This gives a wider range of modelling choices.
If Nealneal wants to use something unique to represent the warding Stave such as a massive shield, a crozius, etc. that's totally cool. Just has to be something no one else has.

edit: I guess other GK kits have a similar helmet? Looks that way, except the vanilla ones don't have the I on the forehead. And I will just also say the vanilla GK term helmets look quite wicked their own.

The only left handed power axe I can find is on that space wolf accessory frame. I have an idea for a company champion using that axe and the storm shield from the command squad.

I agree. I think with an underslung heavy bolter you need to make sure it's still got the feed belt in place. It's such a huge gun it's hard to find a way to have it carried outside of the traditional that it doesn't look ridiculous

I really love the Power Maul from the Dark angels sprue for the Warding Stave, but I also think the Warding Stave bit for the Terminators can be easily cut down to size for a PA guy.
