Perhaps only in specific areas? We had a thread of this nature sometime back that suggested that the anti-abortion terrorism was significantly reducing the access some people had to abortion services. Obviously Planned Parenthood is still in business... maybe a specialist clinic thing or something.

Mostly access is restricted through legislated blocks on funding for them, as well as legislated blocks on access and usage.

EG: If a hospital performs abortions, then it loses access to all state funding through some entaglement issues between different legislation, and stand alone clinics are too expensive in upkeep for the private donations base they have available. Same with how a doctor who performs abortions not being allowed to be employed in a hospital that recieves state funds etc.

I think there is 1 state that has a clinic that only performs the abortions once a month or something like that, because they have to fly in a doctor from out of state to perform them, because they cannot afford a dedicated doctor in-state.

It's late term abortions that are limited by terrorism I believe. What with so few doctors willing to do them because people murder them.

Late term abortions are illegal in most places except for health risk so that might be why women have trouble finding places to get them.

I might be mistaken, but as far as I can recall North Dakota has one "women's clinic" and it's in Fargo. Granted, Fargo is a huge city by ND standards, but if you live in a city like Dickinson or hell even the state capitol you're looking at at least a 6 hour drive round trip to get there and back.

An ex of mine worked at an abortion clinic and said that a LOT of the protester attacks are
A: Massively incompetent, like "almost kill yourself and get saved by the people you were trying to kill" incompetent
B: Uncounted, because of lack of evidence it was "for the cause" or the paperwork and charges were too much of a hassle* to take to court, let alone win.

Of course that's all "second-hand story" anecdotes, not "data".

As for Tucker Max, I enjoyed 50% of his material that I was exposed to. Specifically the one story where he recounted freaking out about having once had sex with an MtF transsexual and then rationalized that it couldn't be true because, "she was too girly, I'd know." Which was hilarious in the same way Snooki is hilarious when she gets punched in the face.

*Example story, the same guy who gave her a bloody nose with a thrown bible (literally) also had several bones broken when the annoyed security guard threw him over a hedgerow (and over the "I can beat you up" line) and "went to town," as the kids say. The punchline being that the security guard convinced the police there was no way he could throw a man over a 6' deep hedgerow.

Well, that, and Pro-Lifers harass the people who go to them. And work at them. And own them. And in some cases, the children, families, and friends of any of those people.

Not to mention lots of conservative states love passing laws making it hard for services to be provided without outright banning abortion. (I'll have to come up with some citations on that one)

Citations to start with, then there's the Maryland "rape-wand" law, the doonesbury cartoons detailing laws that, for the most part, already exist in a number of states (Texas for example has a 24-hour waiting period, one-hour counseling session, specialty after-care ward as expensive as an ICU, and others I can't remember off the top of my head) requiring the patients and the clinics be subjected to extra expenses and extra liabilities rationalized as "for patient safety" but nakedly for the religious belief that sex is bad and women should be punished for it.

I've heard some nasty, nasty stories about the stuff they pull, stuff that doesn't make the papers like this bombing.

But again, I'm some guy on the internet...

Was it this thread I saw this story? It was here or Fark, but I don't recall where. Either way I'm linking it.

A clinic’s landlord turns the tables on anti-abortion protesters
The tactical decision to focus on a clinic’s landlord was a clever move, although Stave could handle it. He’s pretty tough after all the years in this fight.

But his tormentors crossed the line last fall when a big group showed up at his daughter’s middle school on the first day of classes and again at back-to-school night. They had signs displaying his name and contact information as well as those gory images of the fetuses.

“What parent wants to have that conversation with an 11-year-old on the first day of school?” he fumed.

Soon after that, the harassing calls started coming to his home. By the dozens, at all hours. Friends asked him how they could help. He began to take down the names and phone numbers of people who made unwanted calls. And he gave the information to his friends and asked them to call these folks back.

While I applaud him for getting some payback, I'm offended at people protesting the landlords kid.

Was it so risky to protest people going into a clinic that they had to pick on an 11 year old at school?

Way to go! You really showed that kid your values on protecting the innocent.... Oh wait!

This article struck me as a whole lot of "Liberal women have daddy issues."

  • Options

That article is really stupid. Well, I havent finished yet but these have stuck out as particularly stupid to me:
Some blame the men for failing to connect with women, while others blame Republican policies. But what of women’s liberation and agency? Taking the role of female voters out of the equation, effectively silencing them, seems a decidedly anti-feminist thing to do.

Male candidates (more accurately Republican candidates, since she apparently ignores the presence of female Republican politicians) have trouble "connecting" with female voters. Im not sure how that is incompatible with female agency. Like, men are saying shit and then the women are deciding they dont like it and vote for someone else.
Quinnipiac, Public Policy Polling and Gallup found that Romney actually improved with women between mid-December and mid-February, just after the brouhaha began. And Rick Santorum, the staunch social conservative whose views on contraception have been at the epicenter of the debate, has earned the female vote in every state he’s won. He also polled 21 points higher among Republican female voters than Romney in a question about who understands their needs better.

Romney/Santorum gaining traction with the 38% of women who already vote Republican (since we're talking about primary voters, and really thats an even smaller percentage of women) doesnt have any implications about the women at large who already dont vote for Republicans. Everyone, stop the presses. Conservative women like it when conservative politicians take conservative stances on social issues! Holy fuck!
And now, President Obama is leading Mitt Romney by an alarming 20 points (58% to 38%) among women...
But even more telling: If the contraception debate were to blame for the widening gender gap, you’d expect Democrats’ numbers to have since spiked upward. Not the case. In a January NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, Democrats on the congressional ballot had a 15-point advantage with women before the debate began. And now? A 14-point advantage. Further, Obama’s job-performance rating among women, according to Gallup, has remained steady throughout the debate, at about 50%.

    wat.
Blaming a month-long, 2012 debate on contraception for a 30-year trend probably doesn’t make much sense. So maybe it’s about broader social issues, like abortion.

    Again. wat.

Also, maybe women support "big government" (aka "the social safety net") because they are typically the ones left caring for elderly relatives, being single parents, being stuck with low-paying "pink collar" jobs, etc, etc, etc, at a disproportionate rate compared to men.

Ultimately, it's an opinion piece with a lot of opinion and little thought. She probably fails to understand why women flock to Democrats because she herself is (likely) wealthy and (demonstrably) white, and thus insulated from all the nasty externalities of the social policies Republicans are pursuing all across the nation.
